To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISABELLE HENNE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Top Lifts for Shoe-Heels, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
This invention relates to a class of devices adapted to be used in conjunction with shoes.
My invention has for its object primarily to provide a top lift designed to be employed for improving the durability of the heels of shoes by serving to prevent irregular wearing of the heels, and which may be e of a form whereby the wearer of the shoes will be prevented from slipping on slippery surfaces when walking. The invention consists essentially of a resilient main plate member adapted to be attached to the heel of a shoe, and art or all of the marginal edge of one surace of the main plate may be cut-out to provide a recess in which is positioned a wear-resisting plate preferably of metal.
Another object of the invention is to provide one or a number of cushions or resilient extension members which protrude from the wear-resisting plate to serve as anti-skid elements, and to provide a top lift of a simple and efiicient construction which is susceptible of being made for use on shoes of various styles and shapes.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, the said invention being more fully described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claims at the end of the description.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a fragmentary view showing an elevation of the heel part of a shoe with one form of the top lift embodying my invention applied thereto.

he device or top lift has a main plate member 22 which may be of any suitable shape and size so as to be attached to the heel, as 11, of a shoe, as 12, of any well own or preferred style for women, men or children. This main plate member is of a shape conforming with the contour of the body of the heel, and the plate member may be made of leather, rubber or other resilient material.
In Figs. 1 to 6 inclusive is illustrated a form of the top lift composed of a main plate member 22 of leather, rubber or other resilient material which is made in a shape to conform with the shape of the heel of the shoe to which the device is applied. Part of one surface of the resilient plate member 22 centrally of the margin of its curved edge cut-out or recessed, as at 23, in approximately a semi-circular. form, and arranged in this semi-circular recess is a plate 24 of metal or other wear-resisting material which is also substantially semi-circular in shape. Through the central part of the wear-resisting plate 24 are spaced openings 25. Also in the recess 23 of the resilient plate member 22, and between this plate and the plate 24 is an anti-skid element 27 .made of rubber or other resilient material. The anti-skid element 27 has a base-plate 28 which is approximately semi-circular in shape as well as being of a similar size to the wear-resisting plate 24. Projecting upwardly from the base-plate'28 are a number of extension members, or cushions 29 also of rubber or other resilient material which are disposed through the openings 25 of the wear-resisting plate 24, and these cushions are of lengths so as to protrude some distance beyond the wear-resisting plate.
plan view of the form of wear- These parts of the top lift when assembled are fastened on the heel of a shoe by screws or the like being passed through pairs of registered openings, as 30 and 31, provided in the plate member 22 and" openings 32 and 33 being provided in the plate 24:, the screws being driven through the rubber base-plate 28 of the anti-skid element 27 and into the heel of the shoe. The resilient extension members or cushions 29 will then eXtend below the heel for serving to prevent slipping of wearer on slippery surfaces as Well as serving as sound mufflers when the wearer is walking on hard'surfaces.
In Figs. 7 to 10 inclusive is shown another form of the top lift which consists of a'main plate member 3a also of leather, rubber or other resilient material of a shape conforming to the shape of a shoe heel, and a portion of one surface of this resilient plate centrally of the margin of its curved edge is cut-out or recessed, as at 35, semi-circular fashion. Through the recessed part of the plate member 34; in spaced proximity to the central part of its curved edge is an opening 36, while through the plate adjacent to the ends of the recess 35 are openings 37 and 38. Disposed in the recess 35 of the resilient plate member 34 is a metal plate 39 of a form corresponding to g theshape and size of the recess so as to fit snugly therein and mid-way of this plate 39 is an opening &0 in register with the opening 36 of the resilient plate member 3-1, while through the ends of the plate 39 are openings 41 and 42, in register with the openings 37 and 38 respectively of the resilient plate member. On the underside of the resilient plate member 3% is an anti-skid element43 which is preferably composed of a thin strip of rubber, as l l, and projecting from one face of the strip 44 is an extension member or cushion 4E5 also of rubber.

In the foregoing description I have em bodied the preferred forms of my invention, but I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself thereto, as I amaware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention; therefore I reserve to myself the right to make such changes as fairly fall withinthe scope thereof. 1
Having thusdescribed my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent Y 1. A top lift including a resilient plate member for attachment on a shoe heel and having a marginal cut-out in one face, a metal wear-resisting plate in the cut-out, and cushioning means associated with said resilient plate member and said wear-resisting plate.
2. A top lift for the heel of a shoe, including a resilient plate with a metal plate countersunken, in the marginal edge of one surface of the resilient plate, and-a cushioning means associated with the resilient plate and the metal plate. i
3. A top lift for the heel of ashoe, including a resilient plate with a metal plate countersunken in the marginal edge of one surface of the resilient plate, and a resilient anti-skid element protruding from and beyond the exposed surface of the metal plate.
