lEle it .known that I, EDWARD Haar, a Citi- -zen of the United States, residing at Easton, inthe county oit Nortliai'npton and State of Peur sy'lvi nia, have invented certain new 'and Jeful lmprovements in Chemical Apolf which the following is a` full, 'l exact description. invention relates to chemical appaweighing, absorbing, washing, or wise treating gases by passing the rough and in intimate Contact with a liquid or solid, and `its chief object is to provide an improved apparatus for the purpose, of sim-ple character, which can y, be -readily manipulated and can be easily eleaned and charged. It will be observed that a turn of the plug G closes or opens both the inlet tube F and the outlet tube C.' Preferably the passages l and L, are ot such size that not more than a quarter turn of the Cock is suiiicient to open or close the tubes. A slight turn (say a quarter) of the stopper D closes the outlet tube only, as may be desirable when a pres sure is to be produced in the bottle.
The apparatus illustrated is designed particularly for absorbing carbon dioxid or other acid gas and determining its amount, but of course can be used lor other purposes as well, as for example for washing. ln the former case the bottle is charged with suitable absorbent, and is weighed with its contents. rl`he gas .is then passed through, and the bottle and contents weighed again. The increase in weight then gives the amount of gas absorbed.
- The valve plug Gr being removable as readily as the stopper D, the apparatus is easily cleaned and rinsed.
lt is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the apparatus herein specifically illustrated but can be embodied in other forms without departure from its spirit as delincd by the following claims.

An apparatus for gas-absorption and other purposes, comprising a vessel having a removable closure, gas inlet and outlet tubes connected to the lower and upper portions ot' the vessel respectively, and aA single valve connected to both tubes independently of the closure, to control both tubes simultaneously.
