H. V. SEFFERT.
BOILER FILLER. APPLlcATloN FILED AUG.9 1917.

INVENTOR ATTO R N EY "mami BoILEn-FILLER.
Application led-ugust 9, 1917. Serial No. 185,405.
To all whomz't may concern Be it known that I, HARRY V. SEiFERT,
a citizen of the United States, residing `at Vinita, in the county of Craig and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boiler-Fillers, of which the followin is a specification.
My invention re ates to new and useful improvements in a boiler filler. l
The primary object of the inventionis the provision of a device of this character which is simple and inexpensive in construction, particularly adapted forlilling small boilers suchas are used in dyeing and clean ing establishments and various other places.
Another object is the provision of means for heating the water prior to its-discharge into the boiler. Y
A further object is the provision Aof means for forcing the water from the filler into the boiler. Y
With these and invention consists in the novel details of construction and arrangement of parts which will be more clearly understood from the following description and drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation, and
Fig. 2 is a top plan.
At theA present time various means are used for filling boilers such as various types of injectors and pumps, but most of these have been found impractical and too expensive ior lling small boilers which are used in a great many places. As stated in the objects of the invention it is my intention to provide a boiler filler which is inexpensive in construction and easy of operation for filling small boilers and heating the Water prior to its discharge intothe boiler thereby prolonging the life of the boiler.
In the drawings the numeral 1 indicates a boiler of usual construction having the water gage 2 thereon. A water reservoir is shown at 3 and is provided with a water Vgage 4. A water inlet pipe is shown at 5 and enters the top of the reservoir 3 and is provided with a turn valve 6 of usual con struction. A pipe 7 extends from the bottom of the reservoir and has a pipe 8 secured thereto, said pipe 8 being provided with an upwardly extending extension 9 entering the lower end of the boiler- 1. A turn valve' 10 of usual construction is provided at the point where the pipes 7 and S K steication or Letters raient.

connect and a check valve 11 is provided in the pipe 8 intermediate its ends.
A steam pipe 12 extends from the top of the boiler 1 and is provided with the branch pipes 13 and lllswhich are provided with turn valves 15 and 16 respectively of usual construction. The branch pipe 13 is oro= vided with a check valve 17 intermediate the pipe 12 and turn valve l5. An extension pipe 18 is connected to the branch pipe 13 andV enters the top of the reservoir 3 for the purpose as will be presently described. The branch pipe 14 is provided with the downwardly extending extension 19 which passes through the upper end of the reser-A voir 3v and as shown in dotted lines extends to a point slightly above the bottom of the reservoir.
A pet cock 2,0 is provided on the top of the reservoir for the purpose as will be presently described.
. As will be noted more clearly from Fig. 1 of the drawings, the reservoir 3 is so mounted that its lower end is a considerable distance above the lower end of boiler `1. By admitting steam to the reservoir at the upper end thereof, and opening the valve 10 of pipe 7, equalization in pressure on the upper and lower ends of the water within the reservoir will be established, thus permitting the water to flow by gravity from the reservoir into the lower end of the boiler.
Having fully described the detailed construction of my device it is thought that the operation will be clearly understood. The water in the boiler 1 may be initially heated in any desired manner and the water drawn from the -boiler by any suitable means. Water is'adinitted to the reservoir 3 through means of the pipe 5 and valve 6 and the valve 10 will be normally closed. The valve 15 in the branch pipe 13 will also be normally closed and the valve 16 opened whereby steam passes from the top of the boiler 1 through the pipe 12, branch pipe 14:, valve 16, and pipe 19, into the reservoir. The water in the reservoir will be heated by the steam and when it is desired to rell the boiler 1 the valve 16 may be closed and the valves 10 and 15 opened. The steam from the boiler 1 will then pass through the pipe 12, check valve 17, branch pipe 13, and pipe 18, into the top of the reservoir 3, and force the water from the reservoir into the pipe 7, through the valve 10, pipe 8, check valve 11 and pipe 9, into the lower end ofithe boiler. After the boiler has been filled to the desired height the valves 15 and 10 are then closed and the valve 16 opened thereby again heating the supply of Water in the reservoir Which, as previously stated, Will enter through the pipe 5 and valve 6. The surplus steam which might accumulate in the reservoir 3 Will escape through the pet cock 20 in the top of the reservoir. The check valves 11 and17 are provided to prevent the Water from the boiler 1 returning into the pipe 8 and the steam from the branch pipe 13 passing back into the pipe 12 and boiler 1. The depth of thewater in the boiler 1 and reservoir 3 may be determined by examining the Water Igages 2 and 11 respectively.
From the above it Will be found that I have provided a boiler filler which maybe connected to any small boiler and theivater which is to be discharged into theboiler is heated prior to the discharge. The heating of the Water, prior to its discharge into the boiler is of particular advantage for it has been found that when cold Water is admitted directly in-to a boiler it Will be chilledl and cracked.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure` by Letters Patent is l In boiler filling means, a boiler, a reservoir positioned with its lower end above the loWermost point of said boiler, a pipe establishing communication between the lower a check valve anda control valve,.sai`d first mentioned branch. pipel being also `provided with a hand oontrolvalve, anda water supply pipe communicatingwith the reservoir and provided With a control valve.
