lMPR OvEMENTrlN COMBINED SLOPPAILS AND COMMODES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 129,294, dated J nly 16, 1872.
Specification describing a new and useful Improvement in Combined Slop-Pail and Commode, invented by DAVID PATERSON, of the city, county, and State of New York.
The object of this invention is to furnish a cheap and convenient article for the household, which can be used as an ordinary sloppail or commode; and it consists in the seat and in the mode of packing the cover to confine the odor, in combination with a slop-pail, as will be hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a vertical section of the article taken on the line as w of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a top view with the cover off.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is a vessel, which may be constructed the same as an ordinary slop-pail, with the addition of a flange, B, on its inside, by. which an annular chamber, 0, is formed around the inside of the pail, as seen in Fig. 1. D is the cover, which is provided with a broad flange, E. When the cover is on this flange enters the chamber 0, and when the chamber 0 is filled or nearly filled with clean water the pail is sealed and all odor from the contents is confined by a water-packing. F represents a loose commode-seat, which is fitted onto the top of the flange B, as-seen in Fig. 1. The flange B does not interfere with the use of the vessel as an ordinary slop-pail, and when necessary the pail can be used as a commode in the sickroom, or for other purposes, by adding the seat F. After being thus used the cover is put on, and all offensive odor is excluded from the apartment by the flange E immersed in the water contained in the chamber 0.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A combined slop-pail and commode, consisting of flanged cover D E, seat F, and flanged pail A B, all constructed and adapted for use as described.
DAVID PATERSON.
