Immnnmmnnmnnmnfmnnnnnnnnnnnn WALTER L. HARPER, OF BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA.
ENVELOP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 28, 1919.
Application led May 20, 1918. Serial No. 235,597.
To all whom z't may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER L. HARPER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Birmingham, in the county of Jefferson and State of Alabama, have invented new and useful Improvements in Envelops, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to envelops, the object being to provide a combined envelop and wage statement sheet, whereby each individual employee may obtain a statement. of his standing with his employer.
A further object ofthe invention is to provide an article of this character by means of which two records of the earnings, stoppage, etc., of an individual may be simultaneously made, thereby lessenin the liability of error and providing a recor for both the individual and his employer, the construction being such as to permit of conveniently detaching one record without impairing the usefulness of the novelty as a receptacle.
To this end the invention includes the following novel construction and arrangement of arts, to be hereinafter more fully descri ed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:-
Figure 1 is a lplan view o f a blank from which the/envelop is formed, looking at the side of the blank containing the indicia Fig. 2 is a view of the opposite side'of the blank; and
Fig. 3 shows a complete envelop looking at the back panel.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corres onding parts, the envelop is shown as inc uding a front panel 10 and a back panel 11, the latter being secured to the front panel along one of its longitudinal edges and adapted to be folded on the dotted lline 12 in the formation of the envelop. The panel 11 is'formed with a longitudinal flap 13l and a transverse flap 14, one `side of which is provided with suitable adhesive m'aterial by means of which the anels are secured together. Secured to t e front panel 10 is a sealing Hap 15, which is provided with suitable adheslve material as showngat 16 for the purpose of sealing the envelo Formed preferably on the sealmgflal;` 16 is an extension 17 which is separated om the sealing flap by a perforated line 18, this line prov1ding for conveniently detaching the extension 17 for a pur ose hereinafter apparent. The extension 1 is adapted to form a record slip by means o'f which the earnings and deductions of each individual employee .may be recorded and filed and for this purpose one face of the extension 17 is provided with suitable indicia 19. The blank from which the envelop is formed is also imprinted or otherwise spaced preferably upon the back panel 11 indicia 20 similar to the indicia 19 of the extension 17. The relative positions of the indicia 19 and the 'indicia 20 are such that when the back panel 11 is folded over to form the envelop, the extension 17 `may be folded downwardly so that the indicia thereon will register with the indicia of the back panel 11 and a sheet of carbon paper may be placedV underneath the extension and a double record simultaneously made. The extension 17 may be then detached along the perforated line 18 and the flap 16 sealed.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minorl details of construction, for example the positions of the back 11 and extension 17 may be reversed and it is not the purpose of the invention to be limited to the articular disposition and arran ement o parts to be herein shown and escribed.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is An envelop made from a single piece of material of substantially L-shaped formation, said material being divided into a front panel having along one side edge a panel to form the back of the envelop, the first mentioned panel having a sealing flap along one edge thereof, the second men#- tioned panel having sealing flap along one side and one edge respectively to ,join the front and back and an extension formed on the first mentioned sealing flap, said extension and front panel containing duplicate indicia which is adapted to be brought into register before the envelop is formed and thereafter detached to provide separate duplicate records. v
In testimony whereof I afiix my si ature.
