UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MEDORA AUSTIN FRITZ, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
STAMP AND ADVERTISING BOOK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 28, 1919.
Continuation of application filed July 19, 1915, Serial No. 40,551. This application filed February 15, 1918.
' Serial No. 217,465.
7 '0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MEDORA AUSTIN Fiu'rz, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and ous pages thereof being sufiicient to pay for the extra cost of the stamps plus a profit to the makers of the same.
The principal object to provide a booklet of this of my invention is character which is neat in appearance and in which the stamps are securely bound and are held in a moisture proof compartment before they are used and While being used are readily accessible.
The manner in which these objects are accomplished will be set forth in the following specification and more specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a view in perspective of my improved book showing the same partly opened and a portion of the envelop pocket broken away to disclose the position of the stamps therein.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view on the line 22, Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a view showing the shape of the blank in which the envelop pocket is formed.
Referring to corresponding parts by the same numerals of reference. 1 denotes the cover leaves of the book, and 8 denotes the leaves which may carry memorandum, advertising, or information of any desired description, which will add to the desirability or attractiveness of the book. 4 denotes in general my sealed envelop pocket, this pocket being formed from a single sheet of material preferably the sem1-transparent waxed or paraifin paper. This pocket is formed of the rectangular back portion 5 having the front portion 6 of the same shape and size, which is folded over the back portion and fastened by adhesive along the opposite edge 7. Two side flaps 8 and 9 are provided, these flaps including the points 11 being somewhat wider than half the width of the pages of the book and are folded over the rectangular portion along the lines 10. The front and back portions are about the size of two leaves of the book and in assembling the pocket thus formed is bound between the pages 3 and the back of the book, the whole being held by staples 14 or some equivalent fastening means, the points 11 of the flaps 8 and 9 projecting through the back of the leaves. The stamps are placed between the portions 5 and 6 of the envelop pocket before binding and thus when the book is completed they are held between two portions of the waxed paper and the open edges of the pocket are closed by the flaps 8 and 9.
The book thus constructed is sold for less than the cost of the stamps in the pockets so as to induce the ready sale and to provide a medium for carrying advertisements, which is not quickly thrown away. The buyer of this device cuts the side flaps along the edges 10, pulls the flaps out of the binding and throws them away. The rectangular portion thus left is then cut at the edges 13, thus forming two leaves between which the stamps are held at the back. One side may be cut at a time and when the stamps on that side are used the other side may be cut in like manner. Even while the stamps are being used they are preserved from sticking against other objects due to the fact that they are held between the surfaces of the portions 5 and 6 which as heretofore explained, are made of parafiined or waxed paper.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention it will be understood that minor changes may be made in detail and design without departing from the spirit thereof.
This application is a continuation of my application Serial No. 40551, filed July 19, 1915.
What I claim as new and wish to cover by Letters Patent is 1. A book of the character described comprising, a cover, a "pluralityp'of leaves, a prising? a "cover," a pl'l'lragllity' of leaves, anclosecl envelop bound between saidbover' and envelop bound between said cover and said 10 said leaves. "leavesysaid. envelop having flaps, the points 2. A book of the character described comof Which-are bound in with said leaves form- 5 prising a cover, a plurality of leaves, a subing a sealed envelop pocket at the front and stantially rectangular envelopbound along *loackof said book. its center between said cover and said leaves.
3. A book of the character described 'c'om- MEDORA AUSTIN FRITZ.
