WALL-PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 21, 1919.
Application filed May 24, 1918. Serial No. 236,317.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, JESSE T. ROE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas Cit in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in WVall-Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in wall protectors.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple, cheap and efficient wall protector adapted for painters or cleaners use, and with which a surface may be protected while another surface is being cleaned or painted.
A further object of my invention is to provide a wall protector with a suitable handle which is adapted to catch the drip which may happen to run upon the outer side of the protector when the device is being used.
The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing which illustrates the preferred embodiment of my invention,
Figure 1 is a per pective view of my improved wall protector.
Fig. 2 is an end view of my protector shown applied to a wall under woodwork which is to be cleaned or painted.
Fig. 3 is an elevation of my protector, shown applied to a portion of a window for protecting the glass when the sash is being cleaned or painted.
Similar reference characters designate similar parts in the different views.
The wall protector comprises a substantially rectangular plate 1, preferably curved in cross section and having one longitudinal straight edge 2, which is adapted to simultaneously engage the surface to be cleaned and the surface to be protected.
The other longitudinal edge of the plate 1 is provided with a handle comprising preferably a longitudinal tubular bead 3, formed on the convex side of the plate 1 and having its inner side spaced apart from the body of the plate so as to form a longitudinal opendrip, which may pass from the surface which is being cleaned or painted onto the convex side of the plate, may enter the channel 5, which is formed by the bead 3.
The bead 3 serves as a handle by which the plate may be firmly held in position, while at the same time preventing the paint or lye water from having contact with the hand which holds the plate against the wall or window sash.
The plate 1 adjacent to one end may be provided with a transverse hole 6 adapted to receive a supporting device, such as a nail or screw hook.
In Fig. 2, 7 designates the surface of a wall which is to be protected while the surface 8 of the woodwork is being cleaned or painted. As shown in Fig. 2, the longitudinal edge 2 is applied in the corner formed by the junction of the surfaces 7 and 8, the convex side of the plate being disposed upwardly, and the bead 3 being held away from the surface 7. Any paint or dirty water, which runs from the surface 8 onto the convex side of the plate 1 will enter the channel 5 through the opening 4 without coming into contact with the hand which grasps the outer side of the bead and the inner side of the body of the plate.
In Fig. 3, 9 designates the pane of glass which is to be protected and 10 the sash which is to be cleaned or painted, the longitudinal edge 2 of the protector being held against the glass 9 and the sash 10, so that the latter can be cleaned or painted without the brush or rag coming in contact with the pane 9.
It will be understood that after a portion of the surface to be cleaned or painted has been operated on and finished, the plate 1 is slid along so as to have the edge 2 in contact with the next surface which is to be cleaned or painted and in contact with the surface adjacent thereto which is to be protected.
I do not limit my invention to the structure shown and described, as modifications, within the scope of the appended claims, may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What I claim is 1. A wall protector of the kind described comprising a substantially rectangular plate having one longitudinal straight edge adapted for simultaneous engagement with the surface to be cleaned and the surface to be protected, the other longitudinal edge having a channel adapted to catch the drip and serving as a handle.
2. A wall protector of the kind described comprising a substantially rectangular plate having one longitudinal straight edge adapted to simultaneously engage the surface to be cleaned and the surface to be protected the other longitudinal edge being formed into a tubular longitudinal bead adapted to form a handle and having a longitudinal opening adapted to catch drip from the upper side of the plate.
8. A Wall protector of the kind described comprising a substantially rectangular plate,
curved in cross section and having one longitudinal straight'edge adapted to simultaneously engage the surface to be cleaned and Copies of this patent may be obtained for the surface to be protected, the other longitudinal edge being formed into a tubular longitudinal bead on the convex side of the plate adapted tov form a handle and at its inner side being spaced apart from the plate so as to form a longitudinal opening adapted to catch drip from the convex side of the plate.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
