To all whom t may concern.'

Be it known that I, ARCHIPP DUNAE, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and

resident of the city of Saskatoon, Province I the of Saskatchewan, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bags, of which the following is a specification. f i

This invention relates to improvements in bags designed to be used for shipping grain or other cereals or with sugar and like feedstuffs, and the objects of the invention are to provide an effective sealing means which forms part of the bag and can quickly be adjusted and positioned in such a manner that the full capacity of the bag will be utilized, in this respect having a great advantage over bags at present in use in which a great deal of waste space is left at the top of the bag, owing to the inability to securely close the same.

Further objects are to eliminate the use of sewing or flexible members which are general y used in fastening the mouth of a bag in closed position, and to adapt the closure member to better perform the functions required of it.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists essentially of the improved construction particularly described and set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings forming part of the same.

Figure l is a front elevation of a blank from which the bag is formed.

Fig. 5 is an enlarged perspective view of upper portion of the bag as seen when closed.

Referring to the drawings, A represents a blank of material from which the bag is formed, the said blank being designed to be folded about the median line 10 which is Specification of Letters Patent.

indicated by a dotted line thus forming the front and back walls 11 and 12.

At the top of the back wall a pocket 13 is arranged and is secured by means of a horizontal row of stitching 14 while on the extreme upper end of the back wall, a pair of triangular flaps 15 and 16 are sewn, one corner of one flap overlapping the other.

The front wall 11 is somewhat longer than the back wall 12, so that a flap 17 is provided on the front wall which is adapted to be engaged and located in the pocket 13. l/Vhen the front and back walls 11 and l2 are in the desired position after folding the blank about the median line l0, the lateral edges of the said walls are inturned and secured by sewing, as indicated in Fig. 3.

It will be understood that the lateral edges of the Hap 17 will also be sewn to the lateral edges of the pocket 13 and back wallv 12.

The triangular flaps 15 and 16 are now folded over the upper portion of the front wall 11, and the lateral edges secured by sewing to the lateral seams of the body portion of the bag. It will be found advisable when securing the flaps 15 and 16 in position, to embrace their lateral edges between the front and back walls of the bag and sew them in this position, as then there will be no free ragged edge of material exposed.

When the bag is being filled, the flaps 15 \and 16 are folded back, so that they will lie along the outer face of the back wall 12 as shown in Fig. 4, and the fiap 17 is then removed from the pocket 13, so exposing the open mouth of the bag and permitting the material to be filled therein.

lVhen the bag has been lled, the flap 17 is pressed into the pocket 13 and the flap 16 is then folded over into the position shown in Fig. 2, the flap 15 is then folded over as shown in Figs. 3 and 5, so completing the sealing or closing of the bag.4

It will be understood that by using this type of closing flaps, that the bag is much easier to make and is stronger, and also the bag can be more readily closed after it has been filled right up to the top, than is the case in my present application, Serial No. 169518.

From this description it will be seen that I have invented a bag in which an internal closing means is utilized in conjunction with an external closing means, the latter said or scope thereof,

means being so arranged that, it can be readily closed over the former means, t0 prevent the spilling of the contents of the bag, While the Vgeneral structure of the bagl is such that it possesses great durabilityA and' strength.

As many changes could be made in the above construction, and many apparently Widely different embodiments of my invention, Within the scope of the claims, constructed Without departing from the spirit it is intended that all matter contained in accompanying drawings bev interpreted illustrative, and not in a limiting sense.

What l claim as my invention is: v

1. A bag having an internal. pocket` adjacent to the mouth thereof, an' overlappmg triangular flap on their-ont wall of the bag, adapted to engage the above speeication and;
