JOHN MARMORSTEIN, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
ANTISLIP ATTACHMENT FOB. SHOE-HEELS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. '7, 191 9.
Application filed June 21, 1918. Serial No. 241,186.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN MARMORSTEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at J ersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Antislip At tachments for Shoe-Heels; and I do hereby de-lare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an anti-slip attachment for shoe heels, and the novel features thereof are hereinafter des oribed, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and
'ing its major portion 6 bent to conform to the contour of the outer curved surface of a shoe heel, or in other words, is of substantially U-shape, while the lesser portions 7 or extremities are deflected at right-angles to the portion 6 and are overlapped, the same occupying a position immediately in advance of the front portion of the heel. Disposed transversely of this band, considered in its entirety, is a heel supporting member, 8, it being essential that this member should occupy a position between the top and bottom edges of the band 5.
In the modification illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5 of the drawings, the heel support 9 extends inwardly from the wall of the band 5 and both the heel support and the band are preferably cast as an integral structure.
Each of the forms may e attached in two ways. Firstly, as shown in Fig. 1, a small wing screw, or the equivalent, as 10, is combined with a lace or strap 11, the end of the fastening device 10 being brought into engagement with the adjacent front portion of the heel, and the lace, which is attached to opposite sides of the portion 6, being carried forward over the instep and tied as at 12. Secondly, the lace 12 may be dispensed with, and a pair of winged SoIGWS l5 positioned toward the rear OI portion 6 for frictional engagement with the outer surface of the heel.
As will be seen from the foregoing explanation, my invention may be manufactured at a low cost; may be expeditiously attached and detached; and when worn, the downwardly protruding portion of the band 5 will elfectively engage ice or other slippery surfaces and thereby resist any tendency toward slipping.
What is claimed is:
1. An anti-slip attachment for shoe heels, comprising an integral band of sheet metal bent to form a substantially U-shaped portion conforming to the contour of the outer surface of a shoe heel, the extremities of said band being bent at substantially right-angles to said U-shaped portion and lying in overlapplng relation alongthe front of the heel, a heel support havlng opposite ends joined to the rear of the U-shaped portion and to the overlapped extremities, and means for securing ooth portions to the heel.
2. An anti-slip attachment for shoe heels, comprising an integral band of sheet metal bent to form a substantially U-shaped portion conforming to the contour of the outer surface of a shoe heel, the extremities of said band being bent at substantially rightangles to said U-shaped portion and lying in overlapping relation along the front of the heel, a heel support having opposite ends joined to the rear of the U-shaped portion and to the overlapped extremities, and a fastening device extending through the overlapped extremities of said band and the adjacent portion of said heel support.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JOHN MARMORSTEIN.
