DRAFT-REGULATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. '7, 1919.
Application led .Tuly 2, 1917'. Serial N o. 178,292.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, ANNIE M. GAUsEY,
'a citizen of the United States, residing at Malvern, inthe county of Hot Springs and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Draft-Regulators,
'of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in stoves and the principal object of the invention is to provide means for automatically regulating the temperature of the oven of the stove.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for adjusting lthe regulating means whereby the same may be set to operate at any desired temperature.
Another object of the invention is to so form the device that the same may be attached to the oven door without changing the formation of the same but little.
Another obj ect of the invention is to provide indicating means showing at what degrec of temperature the regulating means will operate.
Another object of the invention is to'provide a device of this character which is simple andi durable in construction, reliable .and eiicient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the 'market at a minimum cost.
v cally pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying.
drawings, wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a front view of an4 oven door i to which the invention is applied.
Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a rear view of part of the invention.
Fig. 4 is a section on line 4-4 of Fi 3.
In these figures, 1 represents an oven oor provided with upper and lower Ventilating openings 2. and 3 and these openings are regulated by the dampers 4' and 5, each of these dampers being secured on the square end of a member 6 mounted to turn in a bearing 7 located within the Ventilating openings before described. Each member is ,forked and pivoted to the bar 12.
bars extend at right angles to the rod 12 I,
members are 'connected by a rod 9. This rod 9 carries a -sleeve 10, adjustably v.mounted thereon by means of a lthumb nut 11.' 12 is a rod having a forked end 123 which engages the Arod 9 below the sleeve 10 and the other end of this rod has a V-shaped end 14 which engages with a V-shaped `depression in a stem 15 having a part bent at right angles and passing through the oven door and hav'- ing a hand 16 secured thereon, said hand being mounted above la dial 17, located on the outer side of the oven door. Collars 15 and 15x keep the stem in position.
I locate on the inner `side of the door a pair of bars 18 and 18 made of expansive metal and lhaving their outer ends secured tothe door as at 19 and their innerTslnds ese and are located one above the said rod and the other below the same. The strap y1,9 secured to the door embraces the bar 18 adjacent its inner end. It will be seen that the pivotal points of these bars are'located close -together on the rod 12 so that -a maximum amount of movement of said rod 12 is secured by a minimum amount of movement of said bars, and Ithe closer together these pivotal points Iare the greater will be the movement of said rod 12, so that the movement of said rod 12 may be adjusted by the position of said bars in relation to each other.
The stem 15 and the rod 12 are in line un- Ider normal conditions, but as the heat of the oven increases the thermal members 18 and 18 expand and impart a pivotal movement to the bar 12 to lift its forked end l13 and depress its pointed end 14 and the notched end of the stem 15, whereby the 'hand 16 is caused to travel over the dial 17 to indicate the temperature of the oven. As the oven cools the parts 12 and 15 return tonormal position by reason of the intcrcngaging projection 14 and the coperating notch in the end of the stem 15. v
When the heat in the oven "reaches a oertaintemperature, the bars 18 and 18 will expand, thus raising the outer end of bar 12 and, by means of the sleeve 10 and the rod 9, opening the dampers to cool oi the oven.
If the ovenshould cool toimuch, the bars automatic. The point 'of closing of the dampers may be regulated by adjusting the' collar on the rod 9.
It will be seen that the movement of the .rod 12 will cause the hand 16 to move over the dial so as to register such movement thereon. The amount of such movement may be regulated by the length of the stem 15 as the shorter this stem is the greater will be the travel of the hand 16.
vThis invention will automatically re ulate the temperature of the oven, without t e atltention of the cook, thus avoiding excessive heating and burning of the food, regardless several parts, provided that such changes fall Within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:A ,1. Means for regulating the heatof an oven, the same comprising a damper, indicating means embodying a dial and a hand,
a stem carryingthe hand and havin aupot.-v
tion bent about at a right angle, a ro in line with the bent end of the stem and having va loose joint connection therewith at one end, an expansion .bar connected with the rod at a point between its ends, and a rod connected with the damper and havin connection with the before mentioned rod, a 1 disposed to' operate substantially in the manner set orth.
2. A stove comprising an oven, 'da' pers located on the door thereof, Ia rod connecting y the dampers, a sleeve adj ustably mounted on said rod, abar having one end engaging with said rod below the sleeve', a stem pivoted in the door and connected with the other endof said bar, a hand connected to saidstem, a
' dial on the door below the hand and bars of expansive metal each having one end connected to the` door and the other end pivoted to said bar.
In testimony w-hereof'I affix my signature 'in presence of two witnesses. v
