UNITEI) STATES PATENT oEEroE.
FERDINAND SCHEIBLECKER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR T0 SALZ BROTHERS, 0F NEW YDRK, N. Y.
FOUNTAIN-PEN 0F TI-I SELF-FILLER TYPE.
Application filed J' uly 5, 1918.
To all whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, FERDINAND SCHEIB- LEGKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain Vnew and useful Improvements in Fountain-Pens lof the Self-Filler Type; and do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in fountain pens of the self-filler type, and more particularly to the manner of connectingthe pressure bar to the elastic ink reservoir.
The object contemplated by the invention is provision of an extremely simple connection between the pressure bar and the ink reservoir, and the consequent elimination of parts which increase the cost of manufacture and consume time for their proper assemblage.
To the accomplishment of the recited objects, the preferred embodiment of my invention resides in that construction and ar rangement of parts hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and embraced within the scope of the appended claims.
In said drawings,
Figure l is a partial longitudinal section of a pen embodying my improvement.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the ink reservoir showing the manner of attaching the pressure bar thereto.
Fig. 3 is a transverse section lalong lines 3-3 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 4: is a perspective view of a slight modification.
In the drawings, 5 designates a conventional type of pen casing or barrel, carrying the usual lever 6. Within the casing is mounted an elastic reservoir 7 and a pressure bar, as 8, which is adapted to be engaged by one end of the lever 6 for the purpose of inflating the reservoir just preparatory to replenishing the supply of ink from an ink-well, ink-bottle or the like, as is generally understood in the art.
The connection between the reservoir 7 and the pressure bar 8 is secured by first turning in a relatively short portion of the Specification of Letters Patent.
Serial No. 243,320.
closed end of the reservoir as at 9, and then bending one extremity of the pressure bar tightly around the double thickness thus produced, the bending of said extremity virtually forming a clip 10. If desired," the opposite extremity of the pressure bar 8 may also be bent upon itself, as at 11, in order to avoid any likelihood of rupturing the material of which the reservoir is constructed. The relative dimensions of the reservoir and pressure bar are such as will permit of their being introduced into the j barrel or casing, allowing, at the same time, for suflicient frictional engagement with the wall of the barrel to maintain them against displacement during ordinary usage.
In the modification shown in Fig. el, the pocket l2 is disposed exteriorly ofthe reservoir.
What is claimed is: i
l. A Jfountain pen casing inclosing an elastic reservoir, the closed end of which is turned inwardly, and a pressure bar embracing said inturned end.
2. A fountain pen casinginclosing an elastic reservoir, the closed end of which is rentrant, and a pressure bar embracing said rentrant end.
3. A fountain pen casing inclosing an elastic reservoir, the closed end of which is provided with a pocket, and a pressure bar having one end engageable in said pocket.
4l. An elastic reservoir for fountain pens having a rentrant terminal, and a pressure.
bar provided with a clip at one end engageable with the rentrant terminal and the adjacent eXterior portion of the reservoir.
5. A fountain pen casing inclosing an elastic reservoir, the closed end of which is doubled upon itself, and a pressure bar having one end tightly secured to said end of the reservoir.
6. An elastic reservoir for fountain pens provided at one end with a pocket. and a pressure bar frictionally engageable with said pocket.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
FERDINAND SCHEIBLECKER.
