This invention relates to a new mop-holder of such construction that it can be opened by a. quarter turn of the compressing-nut, and also closed by a similar movement of the same. The sponge or rag-mop can thereby be easily removed for wringing or washing, and replaced. The invention consists in the arrangement of an elongated compressing-nut, in connection with a slotted or forked lower jaw of the mophead, in such manner that when the nut is crosswise under the jaw it will hold it closed, but will allow it to be freely opened when turned in line with the slot or opening of the jaw.
A in the drawing is one and B the other jaw of the mop-head. The jaw A is rigidly connected to the mop-handle C, while B is pivoted or hinged to theiinner part of A, as shown.
Both jaws are made of bent wire, as shown, or otherwise made T-shaped, with slotted or open Shanks. A screw, a, projects from a cross-bar,
b, of the jaw A, through the open shank of the fullest extent. A very slight motionl suflices,
consequently, to open, and a similar slight motion to shut, the mop.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the elongated nut d, screw a, and cross-bar b with the jaws A and B, as specified. GEORGE FLIEDNER.
