Description

FREDERIC ELLEBY, 0F MODESTO, CALIFORNIA.
MILKERS MASK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan., 7, 1919..
Application led February .19, 1917. Serial No. 149,403L` To 117] whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERIC W. ELLEBY, residing at Modesto, in the county of Stanislaus, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 1n Milkers Masks; and I do declarel the following to be a full, clear, and exact descrlptlon of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this application. l
This invention relates to improvements 1n dairy paraphernalia and particularly to a mask for use7 by a milker to prevent bemg lashed in the face and eyes by the cows tail durino' the milking operation.
The las ling of the face and eyes by a cows tail, especially during fly season, is most obnoxious and many different tricks are resorted to by a milker .to avoid the same. None of the present day methods are satisfactory and I have therefore provided a mask to be placed over the face of the milker which shall prevent any part of the tail or hairs thereof from striking the face or eyes of the milker. This leaves the animal free to lash her tail as much as desired and all evil effects are overcome.
A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which will be exceedingly effective for the purpose for which it is designed.
These objects I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specication and claim. r i
In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts m the several views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the mask as it would appear in use.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the mask removed from the head of the wearer.
Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, I first provide frame supporting wires 1 Shaped to substantially lit completely around the face ofthe wearer. These wires are su1t ably padded on 'the sides and ends by means of padding 2 which may be of any deslred form or material. Projecting forwardly from wires 1 are mask supporting wires 3 tted over which is the mask netting 4. This netting must be of such construction that it will allow the milker to see clearly through same but at the same time the wires thereof must be so inter-woven as to prevent the possibility of any ofthe hairs of the cows tail from being able to sla or work through the same. Such a mask or instance as an or dinary baseball mask or some such familiar mask does not answer the purpose for the reason that the wires are not shaped nor placed sufhciently close together to serve the purpose cov-ered by my invention. A strap 5 is secured to the mask for the purpose of fastening same on the head of the milker and is provided with a fastening button 6 or other suitable fastening means.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that I have produced such a device as substantially fulls the object of the invention as set forth herein. V
While this specication sets forth in detail the present andv preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from' the spirit of the invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A mask for protecting the face of a milker from being lashed by the end of a co Ws tail in motion, such mask comprising a supporting frame attached to fit completely around thel face of the milker and fitting closely on the skull, a pair of stiff horizontally parallel wires projecting from the supporting frame, the top one following the contour of the forehead rand fitting closely thereagainst, the lower one being about on a level with the chin and spaced considerably therefrom, and a nonflexible wire netting covering such framework, the mesh of such netting being spaced sufficiently close to prevent any of the hairs of the animals tail from working therethrough to strike the face of the wvearer and yet of sufficient spacing to permit of easy vision therethrough. v
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
FREDERIC W. ELLEBY.
