To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that ll, JULIA C. PHILLIPS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Wardrobe Attachment, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention relates to wardrobe attachments for beds, such as shown and described in the Letters Patent of the United States, No. 1,053,640, granted to me on February 18,1913.

The object oithe invention is to provide a new and improved wardrobe attachment for furniture, such as beds or other supports,

and arranged to permit of quickly and conveniently attaching it to or removing it from the support without disturbing the latter, and to allow adjustment of attachment to difierent widths and heights to properly support "the wardrobe in extended position or when pushed under the support into dormant position.

It is a fact that in beds as in other mechanical structures the proportion of the parts oftentimes difiers although supposed to be made upon the same scale. This feature of irregularity in beds applies particularly to the width hetween the side rails and to the elevation of side rails from floor even in otherwise standard beds.

in order to accomplish the desired result use is made of supporting members connected with a fixed support, and drawer guides or rails adjustably connected with the said supporting members, the said drawer guides being adapted to support a chest, drawer, shelf or similar device for storing clothing or other articles. Use is also made of a drawer provided at the sides with rollers adapted to travel on the drawer guides or rails, and a retaining arm fixed on the side of the drawer and projecting beyond the rear end thereof and engaging a drawer guide a distance in the rear of the corresponding roller so that the drawer is held in horizontal position when drawn out into position for gaining access to the contents of the drawer.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

. Figure 1 is a perspective view of the wardrobe attachment as applied to a bedstead, the drawer of the attachment being in drawn out position;

The wardrobe attachment as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 4c is shown applied to the side rails A, A of a bedstead-but it is evident that the attachment may be applied to other articles of furniture or other supports without deviating from my invention. The. side rails A,.A' are shown as formed of angle irons but the horizontal members thereof are engaged by forks B, B'- extending integrally and at a right angle from the upper ends of hangers or supporting members B B depending from the said side rails A, A. The bottom member of each fork B, B is provided with a clamping screw C adapted to engage the under side of the horizontal member of the corresponding side rail A or A to permit of securely fastening the hangers or supporting members B B in position on the side rails A, A. it will be noticed that two airs of hangers or sup porting members B, B are used, and the lower ends of the supporting members of a pair are connected with each other by a drawer guide or rail D and bolts E, E engaging apertures B 13 in the supporting members B, B The apertures 13*, B are arranged in vertical rows as plainly indi- 5 of, the free ends of the 'arms J engaging justment of the guide rails D relative to the supporting members B where the said rails A, A are difi'erently spaced apart, each drawer guide D is provided at its back end -with a slot D through which extends the bolt E to allow a slidable adjustment of the drawer guide D relative to the supporting members B. It will be seen that this construction practically provides a standardizing device where beds vary slightly in width. It is understood that the supporting members B B depend vertically from the side rails A, A, and by adjust-ably connecting the drawer guide D with the supporting members B the vertical position of the supporting members is not disturbed in case the rails A, A are farther apart or nearer toether. In order to support the chest in horizontal position while in drawn out position,

Although the sections D, D* are shown in Figs. 6 and 7 as being formed of angle 1I0I1S it is evident that the cross section of the said sections canbe varied; for instance, as

In case the supporting members B, B are to be attached to a bedstead havlng wooden side rails 0 then use is made of supporting members P shown in Fig. 10, hav mg their upper ends P flattened and fastened by screws or other fastening devlces t the wooden rails 0. It is understood that by adjustably connecting the supportmg members B, B with the side rails A, A of a bedstead or other support, the drawer guides or rails D can be readily placed the desired distance apart to insure proper runing of the rollers F on the drawer guides or rails D and to insure proper running of the bars G on the rollers I without danger of binding, so that the chest or drawer can be easily pushed under the bed or drawn out into position for gaining access to the contents of the chest or drawer. It w1ll also be noticed that by providing adjustablllty of the drawer guides or rails D in a vertlcal direction on the supporting members B, B the bottom. of the chest can be held the desired distance above the floor at the same time allowing the use of a chest of considerable depth.

-Having thus described my mvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. In wardrobe attachments for beds and in combination, brackets detachably depending from and substantially rigidly supported by the bed rails, said brackets having a plu- I rality of lateral openings in vertical alinement, tracks having slots, track-securing devices extending through track slots and predetermined bracket openings, said slots permeaeev mitting relative adjustment f brackets and tracks to accommodate for variations in distance between bed rails, and a container movable on said tracks from and to a position beneath the bed bottom.

2. In wardrobe attachments for beds, track-supporting brackets adapted to engage the bed rails, parallel tracks supported by the brackets on a common horizontal plane and positioned to support a container during container advancing and retracting movements, said tracks being spaced apart a distance substantially equal to a dimension of the container, the latter extending below the plane of the supporting tracks, and inde &

pendent means secured to opposite sides of the container and projecting in rear of the plane of the rear end of the container for supporting the latter against downward tiping of its advance portion, the support be ing provided by contact otprojecting portions of the means with an under face of track portions.
