To all whom 15 may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. FOSTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boiler- Stands, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
The present invention is directed `to improvements in stands for supporting kitchen-range boilers, and has for its obJect to provide a combination support and fixture available for use with any conventional form 0f supporting base, or with any extension pipe applied to Such base for the purpose of holding the boiler at any desired elevation from the floor, The advantages of the invention will be fully apparent from the following detailed description 1 n connection with Ithe accompanying drawings in which- Figure l represents an elevation ot a kitchen-range boiler showing my invention applied thereto; Fig. 2 is an elevation of the boiler stand detached from the boiler; Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line 6 3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is an elevational detail. of the upper end of the stad and its fitting taken at right angles to Fig. 2; Fig. 5 1s a horizontal sectional detail on the line 5 5 of Fig. 2; Fig. 6 is a vertical sectional detail through the socket of the base or tripod on the line 6-6 gf Fig. 3; and Fig. 7 1s an elevation of the staff with enlarged base re moved, showing its application to an ordinary as pipe. Re erring to the drawings, and tor the present to Figs. l to 6 inclusive, B, represents a range boiler tapped at the top the receive the cold water pipe 1 as well understood in the art. S, represents a baseor tripod each section or leg 2 of which 1s provided at the top with a curved coupling formation 3 terminating in a reduced tongue or extension 4, the tongue of one section engaging the inner wall of the formation 3 of an adjacent section, whereby when the sections are assembled the several formations 3 will form a socket or holder for the detachable staff and xture to be presently described. The sides of the tongues 4 are flanged, the flanges a holding against rotation the nuts n passed over the inner ends of the screw-bolts b passed through the tongues and formations 3, and by which the assembled sections are held together. The base of the socket formed by the assembled members 3 is provided with an annular ledge or support 5 oset from the base of the shoulder s by which it is surrounded.
The socket of the tripod receives the enlarged bottom terminal or base 6 of a staff 7, the latter as well as the base 6 being longitudinally ribbed and substantially starshaped in crosssection, the sta 7 being surmounted by an inverted T-shaped hollow fitting 8 the vertical leg of which screws into the bottom of the boiler, one of the horizontal legs of said tting (the larger leg) being connected to the cold water circulating pipe l traversing the heater H, from which it emerges as a hot water pipe l the upper end of which connects with the top of the boiler through a T or fitting z, from which leads the hot Water service pipe 1 to any point of consumption, as well understood in the art. The other leg (the smaller one) of the T 8 is fitted with a cock or valve V for draining the tank when the same is being flushed.
In the present embodiment of my invention the stati' 7 with its base 6 are of a standard length so that the height at which the base S and staff and its litting support the boiler above the floor is fixed. I may however, employ the stati proper (without the base 6) as an extension for any length of one and one-quarter inch gas pipe by which range boilers are often supported.
Thus in Fig. 7 I show my tripod or base S supporting a one and one-quarter inch gas pipe P. By cutting 0H the end 6 from the stati 7 of my support, I can insert the statil 7 (which by the way is of a dimension as to freely pass into the bore of a one and onequarter inch pipe) into the upper end of the pipe P, opposing ribs of the stati' being provided with outwardly projecting shoulders or offsets t at the top (substantially even with the peripheral walls of the horizontal legs of the tting 8) for engaging the upper edge of the pipe and thereby limiting Jfurther movement of the stati into the pipe. Thus, under my improvement, the staff 7 with its enlarged base or end 6 and shoulders t may be employed in connection with my tripod or any equivalent base in which the socket receives the enlarged end 6 of the stad 7 and the ledge 5 directly supports the same; or,
by cutting off tlie base of the staff, latter may .be inserted into the ordinary standard gas pipe P and lconnected lup to the l boiler. I do not, of course, Wish to .be limited to the precise form or cross-section of staff, as these may be readily departed from Without affecting theV nature'or spirit of the invention. The shoulders t as vvillbe observed7 are at right angles to the common axis of the horizontal legs of the T fitting 8 whereby the latter is supported on the end of the pipe P not only by said shoulders, but by the said legs as Well.
Having described my invention, what 1 said enlarged portion being receivable by a suitable socket of a conventional supporting member, the upper-end of the stai' terminating in an inverted T fitting for connection' to a boiler, and suitable shoulders formed on the staff at points adjacent ythe horizontal 'legs of said fitting and disposed transversely to thevcommon axis of said legs.
