Description

L. E. F. WACHTER.
WATCH CRYSTAL AND BEZEL.
APPLICATION FILED FEB.I6,19I8.
1 88,307. Patented Dec. 17, 1918.
m How/1m I v If LOUIS E. F. WACHTER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
WATCH CRYSTAL AND IBEZEL.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patent-ed Dec. 17, 1918.
Original application filed December 14, 1915, Serial No. 66,676. Divided and this application filed February To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS E. F. WAGHTER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Watch Crystals and Bezels, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the drawings herein referred to which are made a part hereof and which is a division of my application for Letters Patent originally filedv a crystal and its supporting bezel. Fig. 2
shows a similar cross-section with an alternate manner of insertion of the crystal.
The crystal A is surrounded by a bezel F, having an overlapping inwardly projecting annular portion f, while the snap shoulder f on the inside serves for engagement with the edge of the crystal A. A small annular groove a in the outer face of the crystal, is so formed that the edge of the bezel projection f will engage it so that the overlapping portion of the bezel lying annularly around the edge of the crystal A will have a, broad engagement with the surface of the crystal, and as may be desired the spring of the material of the bezel may be made such as to accommodate any slight irregularities in size. In any case the construction aifords Serial No. 217,474.
a joint between the bezel and the outer crys- I tal surface, which will prevent the ingress of water or moisture between the crystal and bezel. I
The crystal may be snapped into the bezel from the inside, and the bezel is then secured to the watch case center in any usual manner; and when desired the annular bezel portion 7 may be so arranged and proportioned as to insert the crystal from the outside and the annular portion f then rolled down into the crystal as shown as illustrated in Fig. 2.
It will be seen that the edge of the crystal is held on the inside and outside bet-ween the two portions of the bezel f and f, and in the form shown the outer flange of the bezel is longer than the inner flange and presses into the crystal above the edge.
It will be understood that my invention may be modified in forms from what I have herein specifically shown and described, and that the crystal may be made of'various materials and dimensions, without departing from the spirit of my invention, but what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In awatch, a crystal, a circular groove on the face of said crystal, a bezel, an overlapping portion of said bezel adapted to cover the peripheral border of the crystal and engage the circular groove. an annular groove in said bezel to receive the per pheral edge of said crystal, and a radially inward flange extending from the bezel on the inner side of said groove forming a support for the crystal.
Signed at New .York, this 14th day of February, 1918.
