To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS E. F. WAOH- ran, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Crystals for Watches and like Articles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accom anying drawing, illustrative of one particuar embodiment of my invention, this application being a division of my application Serial No. 197,006, filed October 17, 1917.
This inventionrelates' to crystals as the term broadly applies, that are transparent protecting covers such as are used on watches, clocks or other articles where the dial must be visible and at the same'time require protection. Instead of the use of glass for crystals, celluloid and other transparent materials are used, and in the case of celluloid the physical characteristics of the material necessitate new methods of attachment. Among the objects of this invention are to provide better means of overcoming the difficulties in attaching celluloid or like material, and to secure such by means assuring under all conditions a satisfactory joint between the transparent disk and the attaching rim under the varying conditions to which the material is subjected. I I accomplish this by making a pliable, resilient and transparent face cover, the form and construction of which are such that any shrinks age which might take place will not produce a loosening in the joint or. permit the crystal to fall out. v The demand for non-breakable watchcrystals necessitates the production of an article which will overcome all thedisadvantages which crystals heretofore might possess, in particular the loosening of the same from their fastenings due to shrinkage, owing to the character of the composition of such non-breakable crystals.
The particular species of constructionto which this divisional application is addressed, is shown in one form in the accompanying drawing, in which:

The crystal is shown indiametrical section with the field or face portion H, which terminates laterally in a projecting edge h, and has a return bend h terminating in a further lateral extension h".
It will be seen that the crystal when completed has a cupped form. The face or field H, as shown, is crowned, but may be flat, With its periphery beveled as shown at h, and overhangs the folded portion 72/, which fold continues and merges into a laterallyextending thin flange forming a brim constituting the edge of the crystal."
As shown the fold when formed out of the peripheral material of the crystal, graduates down into a thin brim more flexible than the body of the crystal. The material forming the overhang H may be forced outward from the surface of the field, or otherwise fashioned.
"These crystals are associated with attaching means which permit their insertion from the inside toward the outside of a bezel, the brim engaging the under side of the bezel and the overhanging portion h overlaps the inner periphery of the bezel and rests on the outside preventing its dislodgment'.
The particular species to which this divisional application is addressed, while shown in a particular form may be varied as to material, dimensions and shape, without departing from my invention,-but what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
