PULLROD ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
\ Patented Dec. 1'2, i918.
, Application filed January 22, 1918. Serial No. 218,147.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES O. BEWAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Onley, in the county of Accomac and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pull Rod'Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a pull rod attachment for pull rods or chains for igniting gas or other lights, as for example pull chains connected with electric switches. But I have designed it especially for use in connection with a friction ignition device for which device forms the acetylene gas lights,
application filed subject matter of a separate 7 Mar. 13, 1918, Serial No. 222,218.
This invention comprises as an attachment for'the pull rod or chain, a luminous handle formed of two sections of glass secured together and having exterior facets with a luminous compound carried between the glass sections, the light from which is radiated in all directions from the facets, thereby making the entire attachment luminous in the dark.
The invention consists in the following de scribed construction, definitely pointed out in the claims, and shown in the accompanying drawings in whic Figure l is a transverse section through my attachment, and v Fig. 2 is an inner face view of one of the sections of glass shown in Fig, 1. The term glass? is used broadly to cover any transparent material, and the term luminous paint applies to any of the wellknown also provided in one of the sections and this with the luminous paint. In the drawing I have shown both the grooves and the recess as being formed in' section 8. A wire 11 is inserted in the grooves and projects from the outer end of the groove 9 and terminates in an eye 12 to which a rod orchain may be connected.
The sections are preferably formed with facets and the light rays radiating from the luminous compound are diffused through and magnified by said facets, so that it will be visible from any direction, and will appear to cover a greater surface than actually coated;
is coated as at l0 ranged in the recess, and'a pull rod attaching device inserted in said groove. In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
JAMES O. BEWAN.
