STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 1,287, dated August 14:, 1839.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JUDsoN B. GALPIN, of the city and county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement upon Stoves for Burning Coal or Wood; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description.
My improvement consists in attaching to a stove of any required form above the chamber of combustion one or more fiat pipes of the requisite length and of sufficient capacity to afford a proper draft, convolved with interstices between the several convolutions of sufficient size to permit a free circulation of air through the same. In rear of the stove when two of such pipes are attached I place a receiver or horizontal drum connected with the stove by a pipe having a damper therein, and also with the chimney by a pipe, and I also connect the involved ends of the said convoluted pipes with said receiver or drum by means of pipes. hen the damper in the pipe from the stove to the receiver is closed the whole draft is through the convoluted pipes and the connecting pipes from their involved ends to the receiver into the receiver and thence through the pipe into the chimney, whereby a larger amount of radiating surface is obtained.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The convolutive pipe or pipes, combined with the stove and horizontal drum, or with the stove alone, substantially in the manner hereinbefore set forth.
