Description
ATE
;1- FFI JOHN WILLEY, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,692, dated July 2, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN WILLEY, of Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented a new and useful Medical Compound; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved medical compound the principal efficacy of which is its curative properties in all cases of coughs, colds, and lung complaints, and also as a liniment for external use in cases of rheumatism or for bruises. My invention consists mainly in the use of an extract or decoction of the leaves of the California laurel, which is mixed in various proportions with sirup or sweet oil, and may also be combined with certain other oils, if desired as a liniment.
To obtain the valuable portion of thelaurel I prefer to use the leaves, which are placed in a suitable vessel and water is poured over them. Heat being applied the valuable part d-istills over and is condensed in a receiver, or, if found more convenient, steam is passed children, one drop is a dose. If the product i is to be used as a liniment it should be mixed with equal parts of sweet or other suitable oil and rubbed upon the part affected two or three times a day.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is-
A medical compound containing the abovedescribed ingredients in about the proportions herein set forth.
In witness whereof Ihave hereunto set my hand.
JOHN WILLEY.
Witnesses PHILIP MAHLER, WM. SALINZER.
