Description

T. L. RIVERS.
Improvement in Casters; for Trunks.
No. 128,659. Pau ant ed July 2, I872.
fina 7a Z IZZMWW FFIOE.
THOMAS L. RIVERS, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN CASTERS FOR TRUNKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,659, dated July 2, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
. To all whom it may concern:
Be. it known that I, T. L. RIVERS, of Newark, in the coun ty of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Roller-Frames for Trunks and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to theaccompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in a nailless roller-frame for trunks, cast or struck up from sheet-metal in two parts, so as to form an axle for the roller, to run on, and with points and recesses to keep it from slipping apart when riveted, the rivet being above the roller, as will be hereinafter, more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing,-in whic h- Figure l is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 is a detached view. I
A A represent the two halves of around or cylindrical frame, having around its upper edge a projecting flange, a. In the center at the lower edge of each part A is a downward projecting ear, I), from which extends inward a projection, d. The two projections 01 d are round and come close together when the two parts are riveted together, thus forming the witnesses.
axle upon which the roller B is to turn. The roller 13 by thus forming the axle on the frame, forms its own core, and by this means making the article cheaper than those now generally in use. Upon each side edge near the upper end of one of the parts A is a point, t, which enters a corresponding recess in the other part, thus preventing the two parts from slipping apart. 0 is the rivet fastening the two parts together, which rivet passes near the upper edge or above the roller. Each part A may be cast with its part of the axle and points (or recesses) all in one piece, or it may be struck up from sheet-metal in the same manner. A square frame may be formed in the same way equally as well as a round.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A nailless roller-frame for trunks, cast or struck up from sheet-metal in two parts, A A, so as to form an axle, d, for the roller B to run on, and with points it with corresponding recesses to keep them from slipping apart when riveted together, the rivet O passing through above the roller, all as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two THOMAS L. RIVERS.
Witnesses F. A. J oHNsoN A. R. WHITEHEAJ).
