CARD FILE CABINET.
APPLICATION FILED IULYEII. I917.
Patented Nov. 26, I918.
III/IIIIII/ I/VI ENTOR ATTORNEY UNITED STATES JOHN R. REEVES, 0F DALLAS, TEXAS.
Application filed July 31. 1917. Serial No. 183,802.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN R. REEvEs, a citizen of the United States of America, residing in Dallas, Dallas county, Texas. have invented a certain new and useful Card-File Cabinet. of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and useful improved form of card containing cabinet for use in connection with a card index bookkeeping system. A purpose of this invention is to provide a closure cabinet or casing to contain a plurality of pivoted card containing racks, each rack being adapted to hold one or more cards upon which acustomers account may be kept. My invention does not particularly relate to any form of card index or bookkeeping system, but discloses a suitable form of casing through which a customers account can readily be determined without removing the card or slip of paper containing said account.
A further purpose of the invention is to provide a means of selection of an individual customers account from out of the plurality of accounts contained therein without the removal of the cards from the case which permits the proprietor or clerk of any mercantile establishment using this device in connection with his card index bookkeeping system to determine at a glance said customers account, and prevents an unauthorized clerk or employee from tampering with or otherwise modifying the customers account.
With the above and other objects in view the invention hasrelation to a certain combination and arrangement of parts, an example of which is given in the following specification, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein;
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view taken through the casing of the device.
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of the card index case.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view.
Referring now more in particular to the drawings, wherein similar parts are designated by the same reference characters throughout, the numeral 1 points out a casing formed of aluminum or other suitable material. This casing is provided with a closure top 2 which is of glass to ermit a clear view of the contents containe therein.
A plurality of card carrying racks are CARD-FILE CABINET.

contained within-the casing and pivotally confined upon pins 3. Each card rack comprises a member formed with a rectangular inwardly formed ribs 7 which permit a card or a number of cards to be confined between the said ribs for the purpose of noting from time to time the items bought from the store. The member 4 has formed on the lower extremity a support base 7 holding the cards to be contained in the rack. Ears 8 are integrally formed on the rack 4 for the purpose of pivoting same upon the pintle 3. These card racks may be of any size and any suitable number arranged in the casing to accommodate the needs of the store.
The glass cover or door 2 will be preferably secured on the casing by a lock so that it may be conveniently removed by the proper authority and new items entered up on the cards of the customers.
A rod 9 provided with a small hook or bent extremity 10 is slidably confined in the casing and so arranged as'to pass along the card racks without contact therewith by proper manipulation of the rod through the handle or knob 11. The rod is slidably contained within a flexible and yieldable rubber sleeve or ferrule 12 confined upon the rod and inserted in the casing. This arrangement of parts permits the rod to be manipulated sidewise or up and down and forward sufliciently to bring the point in contact with any card rack it may be desired to select. For example, if it is desired to know the status of any account contained in the cabinet, a selection may be made as illustrated in Fig. 3, which exhibits to full view the amount of the account and the details thereof.
The invention is presented to include all such changes and modifications in form or design as may come within the meaning of the following claims.
Claims:
1. In a card index filing cabinet, the combination with e casing provided with a glass cover cap for the purpose of exhibiting to view the contents of cabinet, a plurality of card containing means pivotally arranged in the casing beneath the glass cover cap, and a rod provided with a suitable handle and point formed on one extremity thereof slidahly confined in a flexible bearing in the casing for the purpose of manipulating back and forth the card racks.
2. In a card index system and filing ease, the combination with a cabinet housing, of
a plurality of card containers comprising pivotal racks with edges turned over for holding cards, pivot pins adapted to pivot the cards racks, a transparent cover for the cabinet housing, and a handle member for actuating the card racks slidably confined within a flexible bearing and adopted to be moved along the edge of the card racks transversely to the axis of the said racks.
In testimony whereof I afiix my hand.
