Be it known that I, JOHN J. VAGNER, a itizen of the United States, residing at Green Cove'Springs, in the county of Clay I and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Draft-Accelerators and Ventilators, 0f which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to smoke fines and ventilators. It was devised with particular regard to army field ovens to overcome the poor draft conditions that. prevail with the customary low stacks. It uses, however, are manifold and it is of especial utility as a ventilator for apart-ments, elevators, ships, street cars, railway cars, etc. A distinct merit of the invention is that it provides for the dual function in a single structure, that is to say it is reversible so that in one position it functions as a ventilator and in the reverse position it functions as a smoke fine and draft accelerator, all of which works for simplicity,v economy and practicability.
The nature, characteristic features and scope ofthe invention willmore readily be understood from the following description,
taken in connection with the accompanying.
drawings, wherein,--
Figure l is a perspective view of my improved ventilator and draft accelerator.
Fig. 2 is a view principally in vertical SectionA of the device of my invention positioned, equipped and arranged to function as a smoke iiue or draft accelerator.
Fig. 3 is a sectional elevational view of the device disposed as a ventilator; and
Fig. #Lis a. section on line l-i of Fig. 2.
The main or hodyportion, air'drum or chamber 5, open at each end, is provided circumferentially with iaring or bell shape vair injecting nozzles 6, the number 0f which may vary, but preferably four in number in order to take air from any quarter. Internally of the structure 5 and co-extensive with the nozzles 6, there are air ducts 7, which are canted somewhat out of the perpendicular and discharge the inducted air in spiral 0r whirling fashion along or upon the inside wall of the part either upwardly or downwardly according to how thelatter is disposed. In Fig. l, the device is shown as a smoke iiue and draft accelerator and is provided at the bottom with a basal or stack connecting part 8, which is relatively contracted for the major 'portion of its length and merges on graceful lines with the air chamber; and the device is further provided at the topu with a smoke discharging cover plate or cowl 9 which is telescopically or otherwise removably applied thereto. Evidently the smoke and gases under forced or accelerated draft pass through the open dome l0 and are finally discharged under the -overhang 0r skirt l1.
In Fig. 3 the device is shown in the reverse position, stripped of the cowl of course, and
with the air ducts 12 discharging downwardly for Ventilating purposes. The contracted portion or neck 13, in this embodiment, acts as an eduction passage for foul or vitiated air.
Itv will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which the invention relates that moditications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Hence, the same is not limited other than required by the state of the prior art.
Having described the nature and objects of the invention, I claim A device of the character stated, comprising the lcombination of an air drum, nozzles externally thereof and havingconducting tubes penetrating the walls of the drum and disposed at substantially right angles to the nozzles, a stack connecting member consisting ofa. constricted tubular part or neck, and mea-ns designed to coperate with the drum whereby it is adapted to function either as a draft accelerator or ventilator.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JOHN J. WAGNER.
