To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER Honwrrz, a citizen of the United at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soap Containers and Deliverers, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to devices designed to serve as soap containers and deliverers and particularly to devices of this class de signed for use in garages and similar places where automobiles and other vehicles are stored or stabled, and where large amounts of soap are used in washing or cleaning such vehicles; and the object of the invention is to provide an improved device of the class specified which may be manipulated so as to deliver any desired amount of soap in condition for use; and whenever necessary, and by means of which the soap will be kept clean at all times and in proper condition for use; a further object. being to provide a device of the class specified which, in addition to serving as a container anddeliverer of soap, may also be made to serve as a container and deliverer for other plastic substances such as grease or heavy oils; and with these and other objects in vie the invention consists in a device of the class specified, constructed and operated as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention described and claimed herein is an improvement on that described and claimed in a March 19, 1918, No. 1,259,741, and is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated. by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a side and sectional view of my improved soap container and deliverer;

Rotata-bly mounted on the shaft 6 is a soap container and deliverer c which is cylindri- 0211 in form and provided with a bottom 0 having'an enlarged central threaded portion 0 through which the shaft Z) is adapted to pass. The container 0 is open at its other end and with which is detachably connected .a hopper 6, having a neck portion 6 provided with a plurality of apertures 6? through which the material of the container 0 is adapted to pass as hereinafter described.
The hopper e is provided adjacent to the neck portion 6 thereof with a discharge port or passage 6* controlled by the valve 6 pivoted at e", and provided with a handle or finger piece e by which it may be manipulated.
Mounted on the shaft 6, within the container c, is a supplemental bottom 7", the central portion of which is threaded as shown at f to correspond with the threads on the shaft 6, and the lower face of said bottom 7 is recessed as shown at 7, and pivotally mounted on the supplemental bottom 7 within the'recess f are pawls g, two of which are employed, said pawls being-adapted to operate in connection with oppositely arranged recesses b in the shaft 6 adjacent to the end portion 6 thereof as clearly indicated in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawing. The pawls g are normally held in engagement with the shaft 6 by suitable springs 9 as clearly indicated in Fig. 3, and with this construction when the supplementalbottom.

The supplementalbottom f is preferably provided in the periphery thereof with a packing ring it of any kind or class for the. purpose of preventing the passage of soap or other substances 1n the container around the supplemental bottom in the operation of the device, as hereinafter deprovided with a detachable cap (Z ill scribed. The function of the cap I) is to prevent the supplemental bottom 7 from displacement from the shaft 5 in the. operation of the device, but by detaching said cap, said bottom may be detached from the shaft 3) for cleaning or other purposes.
From the foregoing description the operation of my improved device will be readily understood when taken in connection with the accompanyingdrawing and the following statement. The position of the arts shown in Fig. 1 might be regarded as the normal position thereof, or the posi-' tion the parts will assume when my im proved soap container and deliverer is shipped from place to place. and if the container in the position shown in Fig. 1 is or has been filled with soap, the operation of discharging the soap therefrom will be as follows. The container the shaft 6 to bring said container into the position shown in Fig. 2, which operation is accomplished by grasping the hand-piece (1 connected with the container efer the cap portion (Z thereof, and in the above operation of raising the container 0 on the shaft 3), the supplemental bottom f will also be raised into the'position shown in Fig. 2, as will be readily understood. When it is desired to discharge a portion of the con- .tents of the container 0, said container is rotated on the shaft 5 in the opposite direction, or to cause said container to descend on said shaft, in which operation the supplemental bottom f is held against rotation by reason of the engagement of the pawls g with the recesses b in the shaft 6, and by reason of this fact the contents of the container is forced out through the apertures e in the neck portion 6 of the hopper e, and may be removed from said hopper in the usual or any desired manner.
It will be understood that the continuation of the above operation of rotating the container 0 on the container into the position shown in Fig. 1 will discharge all of the contents of the container through the apertures 6 and at the end of this operation, the supplemental bottom f will be in the position shown in Fig. 2, with the container 0 in the position shown in Fig. 1, and when it is desired to refill the container or to clean the same, or the separate part thereof, the cap (Z is removed, the cap 5 detached from the shaft 6, and said shaft detached from the bottom a of the frame or casing a, and the bottom 0 of the container 0, after which the supplemental bottom f may be detached therefrom. in reassembling the parts, the supplemental bottom f is first connected with the lower end portion of the shaft h, after which said end portion of the shaft is connected with the bottom 0 by pass ng said shaft with the supplemental c is rotated on shaft 7) to move said of the container 0' naeaiee bottom thereon downwardly through the container 0, and than securing said end portion of the shaft '6 to the bottom a of the which brings the parts frame or casing a,
in the position shown in Fig. 1, as will be readily understood.
While if have described one method of discharging the contents of the container 0, it will be understood that the container may be shipped to the user or purchaser in the position of the parts shown in Fig. 1 without any soap or other substance therein, and when it is desired to use said container or to fill the same with the desired substance, the container 0 may be first raised into the position shown in' Fig. 2, after which said container may be filled by detaching the cap (Z, or the hopper e, and in this way a greater amount of the substance employed may be introduced, but the operation of discharging the substance in the container 0 will be exactly the same as that described in connection with the first-named use of the device.
While 1 have shown a construction for accomplishing the desired result, it will be understood that my invention is not limited to thedetails thereof, as herein shown and described, and changes therein and modifications thereof may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 2- 1. In a device of the class described, a cylindrical frame or casing open at one end and closed at the other, a threaded shaft detachably connected with the closed end of said frame or casing and passing axially therethrough, a container mounted in said frame or casmg and adapted to rotate on 1 out portions on one end portion of said shaft to lock said supplemental bottom against rotation thereon in one direction.
2. In a device of the class described, a cylindrical frame or casing open at one end and closed at the other, tachably connected with the closed end of said frame or casing and passing axially therethrough, a container mounted in said frame or casing and adapted to rotate on said shaft, a supplemental bottom mounted in said container and rotatably mounted on said shaft, devices connected with said supplemental bottom adapted to engage cut-out portions on one end portion of said shaft to lock said supplemental tation thereon in one direction, and means detachably connected with said end portion a threaded shaft debottom against to i of the shaft for preventing the detachment of said supplemental bottom from said shaft. 3. In a device of the class described, a frame or casing, a shaft mounted therein, a a container rotatably mounted on said shaft, a supplemental bottom rotatably mounted on said shaft and movable through said container, andmean's on said supplemental bottom adapted to operate in connection with a cut-out portion on one end of said shaft for locking said supplemental bottom against rotation on said shaft in one direction.
4. In a device of the class described. a cylindrical casing open at one end and provided With a central threaded shaft, a container rotatably mounted on said shaft and movable through said casing, a supplemental bottom rotatably mounted on said shaft and adapted to move through said container, and
means on said supplemental bottom adapted to operate in connection with a cut-out portion on one end of said shaft for locking said supplemental bottom against rotation on said shaft in one direction.

In a device of the class described, a frame or casing, a shaft mounted therein, a container rotatably mounted on said shaft, said container being provided with a de tachable cap, a hopper detachably connected with said ca a supplemental bottom rotatabl mounted on said shaft and movable through said container, means for preventing the detachment of said supplemental bottom from said shaft in its movement thereon, and means on said supplemental bottom adapted to operate in connection With a cut-out portion on one end of said shaft for locking said supplemental bottom against rotation on said shaft in one direction. 40 6. cylindrical frame or casing one end of said casing being closed and the other open, a, shaft mounted centrally of the closed end portion of said frame or casing and passing axially therethrough, a container rotatably mounted on said shaft and movable through said casing from the closed end portion to the open end portion thereof, a supplemental bottom mounted in said container and rotatably mounted on said shaft, and means on said supplemental bottom adapted to operate in connection with acut-out portion on one end of said shaft for locking said supplemental bottom against rotation on said sha in one direction. e.
