UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEONARD WILLIAM HOLMES, 0F RICKMANSWORTH, ENGLAND, ASSIG-NOR TO THE HORTON MANUFACTURING COMPANY, LIMITED, 0F RIOKMANSWORTI-I, ENGLAND.
LIQUID-SOAP-DISPENSING APPARATUS.
Application filed July 17, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEONARD WILLIAM HOLMES, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at Rickmansworth, in the county of Hertford, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Liquid-Soap-Dispensing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to apparatus for dispensing or delivering small quantities of liquid soap into the hand of a person desiring to perform his ablutions and the invention has for its object to provide a liquid soap dispensing apparatus that shall be cheap to manufacture and simple in construction.
Liquid soap dispensing apparatus as now made is provided with valves and moving parts in contact with the soap and as the soap eoagulates the valves and moving parts are very liable to choke or stick, so rendering the dispensing apparatus useless.
Liquid soap dispensing apparatus in accordance with this invention is devoid of valves and moving parts in contact with the soap.
In order that the invention may be clearly understood, reference Will now be made to the accompanying drawings, on which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a liquid soap dispensing apparatus; and
Fig. 2 is a section through the discharge aperture.
The liquid soap dispensing apparatus comprises a container 1 that is pivotally mounted in and between the arms of a Y shaped bracket 2 having a base 3 by means of which it is mounted and secured upon a wall or other suitable abutment. The mounting and arrangement of the bracket 2 are preferably such that the arms thereof are horizontal. The container 1 has a cylindrical lower portion and a conical upper Specification of Letters Patent.

portion, and is so mounted that it tends to assume always the position shown in Fig. 1. At the line of juncture of the upper and lower portions, a finger plate 4; is attached. Pressure on this finger plate 1 will cause the container to turn about its mounting. The apex of the upper and conical portion is formed with a depression 5, the sides of which are relatively steepand the inner and outer surfaces of which are parallel the one to the other. At the bottom of the depression is formed an orifice 6, the edge of which is sharp or knife like. When it is desired to obtain liquid. soap out of the container 1, a person places his hand with the finger nails resting on the finger plate 4 and exerts a downward pressure. The container 1 is accordingly turned about its mounting and a quantity of liquid soap is discharged through the orifice 6 into the palm of the hand operating the container. Only a small quantity of liquid soap will be discharged, the'amount depending upon the dimensions of the orifice 6. When the container is allowed to return to its normal position, any
liquid soap on the inner and outer surfaces of the depression flows back into the body of the container and the sharp or knife like edge of the orifice does not provide a surface on which the soap can coagulate. The steepness of the sides of the depression must be so chosen that the liquid soap will flow down quickly and thus prevent coagulation of the liquid soap thereon.
What I claim is A valveless liquid dispenser comprising a revoluble container with a substantially conical reentrant mouth piece, said mouth piece having at its inner extremity a sharp edged annulus.
Dated this 14th day of June, 1917.
LEONARD WILLIAM HOLMES.
