N UT-BLANK-FORMING- MACHINE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 12, 1918.
Application filed January 24, 1916. Serial No. 74,034.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEST HOLLINGS, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Sale, in the county of Chester, England, have invented new and useful Improvement's chines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to machines which have indenters to indent the hot bar of metal before a blank is cut off and forced into a fixed die by a pressing plunger, and has for its object to provide simple means for more positive operation of the parts and to insure the detachment of the pressed blank from the face of the ejecting plunger; and is hereafter described with reference to the accompanying drawing of which Figure 1 is a central longitudinal section, Fig. 2 a transverse section partly in central elevation, and Fig. 3 a horizontal section at A A on Fig. 1 of a machine showing my improvements. a is the main frame, I) the indenters, movable with their slides 0, 0*, by cams d, d on the shaft 6 as usual. As usually arranged with springs these indenters are liable to stick and prevent the bar of metal f from being fed forward but under my invention I provide the indenter cam shaft 6 with additional tappets g acting on rolls 72 carried by the indenter slides 0, 0", which force the indenter slides and indenters apart after they have indented the bar of metal. I construct the tappets by using gib-headed keys 7 for securing the usual indenter cams d on the shaft 6 in NutBlank-Forming Maand using the gib-heads as the tappets g for separating the indenters, the keyways for the cams cl being suitably arranged on the shaft 0 so that the gibs 9 come into action at the proper time. I make use of the bottom indenter cam (V to operate a slide 70 (through a roll la carrying a thin bar Z to knock oi the finished blank from the face of the ejecting plunger m. The slide moves in a V groove n arranged in the framework a close to the top indenter slide 0 and is retained therein by headed bolts 0 passing through slots 1?, and a spring 9, preferably carried in a boX 1" on the slide is, is used to withdraw the slide. The thin arm or bar l is bolted to the slide 70 in such position that the outer end is just clear of the finished nutblank before the slide 76 is depressed by the cam d. The bar Z passes down preferably outside the usual backstop s for the bar 7.
I claim:
In a nut blank forming machine, a frame, indenter slides adapted to be reciprocated therein, a spring pressed slide carrying an ejector, said spring pressed slide being carried on the frame, cams for operating said indenter slides, one of said cams also operating said ejector slide, keys securing said cams to main shaft, said keys acting as cams foroperating said indenter slides in the reverse direction.
