To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that we, IGNACY Bnzos'rowsni and Vieron KnAKowsKi, citizens of Russia, residing at Bayonne, in the county of Hudson and State of New'Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cane-Pistols, of which the following is a specification.
rlhe primary object of the invention is the provision of a cane adapted for firing whenever the occasion requires while the exterior appearance of the device is that of an ordinary cane or walking stick, the fact that the same is adapted for firing being unnoticed by the casual observer.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a cartridgefirino' means normally incased within a cane, adapted for reloading when desired and adding no material weight to the cane.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a cane having a pleasing appearance provided with a concealed pistol mechanism ready for instant use when required, the device being capable of successive firing and being easy and inexpensive to manufacture.
lith these general objects in view, the invention will be hereinafter described and claimed in connection with the accompanying drawings in which like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

Our invention presents the exterior appcarance of an ordinary cane having a shaft 10 provided with an angularly projecting handle 11 at one end thereof. The said shaft 1s formed of two tubular wooden sections 12 and 13, the handle 11 projecting from the section 12, while the section 13 is slightly tapered and is provided with a removable terminal cap 14 serving as a tip for the cane.
A tube 15 is closely fitted within the axial bore 16 of the cane section 12 with the adjacent end of a pistol barrel 17 provided in the section 13 screw-threaded therein as at 18. A cylindrical housing 19 is longitudinally secured within the tube 15 by rm engagement within a perforation 2() of the inner .closed end 21 of -said tube. A guide pipe 22 is secured to the housing 19 by means of brackets 23 and 24 while a disk 25 is held stationary within the tube 15 by mounting it upon the outer end of the pipe 22 parallel with, and spaced outwardly of, the bracket 24.
A cam cylinder 26 is revolubly mounted between lthe disk 25 and bracket 24 by means of a trunnion 27 at the inner end of the cylinder j ournaled through the bracket 24 and by an extension 28 at the opposite end of the cylinder centrally journaled through the disk 25. A cylindrical magazine 29 having a squared central opening 30 adapted to receive the squared portion 31 of the extension 28 is seated against the disk 25 for holding cartridges 32 within the chambers 33 thereof substantially after the usual manner of the cartridge magazine of a revolver. In this manner the magazine 29 is adapted to be revolved by the cylinder 26 by means of the mechanism heretofore described whereby the chambers 33 of the magazine are adapted to be brought successively into firing position in longitudinal alinement with the b ore 34 of the barrel 17.
A long firing pin 35 is axially journaled within the pipe 22 by means of a cylindrical head 36 upon Said pin 4SlOlaJOly positioned within the said'pipe and by ineansrofV a per-fY thereof and the head 36 ofthe firing pin, is Y adapted for forcing the pin forwardly when manually drawn rearwardly and released during the firing opera-tion and whereby the pointed forward end 39 of the ringfpin projects through a perforation 40 in the disk 25 for engaging and exploding the adj acently positioned cartridge 32.
A cylindrical block 41 is slidably mounted in the housing 19 with a lug 42 projecting through a side slot 43 thereof. A substantheV lug 42, having one end 46 thereof in the form Yof a foot positioned within the said housing. A hook47 upon the opposite end of the sear 4-4, normally heldoutwardly byV a spring 4S, isadapted to engage in a notch v49 adjacent the inner end of the pin 35, as
illustrated in Fig. 2 ofthe drawings.Y A trigger 50 is hinged as at 51 at one side of the lug 42 and is normally Vheld Voutwardly projecting through a side slot 52 in the cane section 12 by means of a'spring 53 connected between the saidtrigger and the lug 42.
, Upon unscrewing the barrel 17 from the tube 15,the magazine 29 may be removed from the post 28 for reloading the chambers 33 thereof. Upon replacing the barrel 17, the device is ready for firing when the trigger 15 is in its outwardly projecting position andthe cap or tip 14 has been disengaged from its threaded engagement with the threaded muzzle portion 54 of the outer reduced end 55 Vof the barrel 17 T he hook 47 of the sear 44 beingengaged'in the notch 49 of the firing pin 35, a pulling of the trigger 50 toward the cane handle 11 forces the sear Y 44 and the pin 35 in the saine direction away from the` disk 25 until the foot 46 engages an inclined tripping block 56 at the Ainner end of the housing 19 which swings the sear upon its pivot 45 and releases the hook 47 from the pin 35. The spring 38 thereupon projects the firing pin toward the disk 25 and engages the pointed end 39 thereof withY the cartridge 32 positionedwithin the path of movement of the firing pin.
A spring-,pressed nger57 is pivoted inV the head 36 of the firing pin and projects outwardlyV thereof for slidable reception within the adjacent one of a plurality of spiral canrgrooves 53 upon the surface of the cylinder 26.' Each retraction of the head 36 for positioning the pin 35 ready for firing revolves the cylinder 26 by means of the Vsaid Y finger 57 sufliciently to bring a successive one Y of said chambers 33 in axial alinement with 'f the pistol bore 34. In Fig. 12 a dierent form of tip. or Cap 14 is, illustrated, the same being hingedly connected to the cane portion 13 by means of a metal strip 62 while the same is Yretained closedv by means of a spring63 Vadapted for engagement by a'pin 64 upon said cap 14. With the cap 14 screwed upon the barrel ent 54, and with the trigger 50 folded within the slot 52, the shaft 10 of the cane presents substantially the usual appearance of a wooden V walking stick having a metal ferrule 65 surrounding the same at a point adjacent the handle 11 and through a slot 66 of which the trigger 50 is adapted to project. The tip 14 is readily removed and the trigger 50 out-Y holding Yany desired number of the cartridges 32. Y
What we claim as new is 1. A cane formed of tubular sections, a

A pistol cane comprising a cane formed of two tubular sections, a tubular holder secured in one section, a pistol barrel extending through the other section of the cane having threaded engagement with the adj acent end of said holder when the device is assembled, a housing within said holder, aguide pipe carried by said housing, a disk upon said pipe having a perforation therethrough, a spring-pressed firing pin slidably mounted within said pipe adapted to project through said perforation during the firing operation, a cartridge magazine between said disk and barrel having chambers adapted for successive positioningbetween said perforation and the bore of the barrel, and releasable retracting means for the said pin.

A pistol cane comprising a cane formed of two tubular sections, a tubular holder secured in one section5 a pistol barrel eX- tending through the other section of the cane having threaded engagement with the adjacent end of said holder when the device is assembled, a housing within said holder, a guide pipe carried by said housing,` a disk upon said pipe having a perforation therethrough, a spring-pressed firing pin slidably mounted within said pipe adapted to project through said perforation during the firing operation, a cartridge magazine between said disk and barrel having chambers adapted for successive positioning between said perforation and the bore of the barrel, a cylinder journaled between said disk and housing attached to said magazine, means upon said pin adapted for revolving said cylinder a partial rotation at each retraction of the firing pin whereby the magazine is automatically revolved. to firing positon` and retractng means for the pin adapted for automatic release therefrom and operable eXteriorly of the cane.
5. A pistol cane comprising a cane formed of two tubular sections, a tubular holder secured in one section, a pistol barrel eX- tending through the other section of the cane having threaded engagement with the adjacent end of said holder when the device is assembled, a. housing within said holder, a guide pipe carried by said housing, a disk upon said pipe having a perforation therethrough, a spring-pressed firing pin slidably mounted within said pipe adapted to project through said perforation during the firing operation, a cartridge magazine between said disk and barrel having chambers adapted for successive positioning between said perforation and the bore of the barrel, a cylinder journaled between said disk and housing attached to said magazine, means upon said pin adapted for revolving said cylinder a partial rotation at each retraction of the firing pin whereby the magazine is automatically revolved to firing position, a tip cap for the cane detachably secured to the outer end of said barrel, a block slidably positioned within said housing` a springpressed scar pivoted to said block exteriorly of the housing having a hooked end adapted for normally engaging the adjacent end of the firing pin when the pin is retracted during a movement of the block in one direction, a foldable trigger operatively connected to said block normally extending eX- teriorly of the cane, and automatic tripping means for the sear provided in said housing within the rearward path of movement of the opposite end of the sear whereby the scar is released from the pin at the rearward limit of movement of said trigger.
6. A pistol cane including tubular wooden sections with one of said sections provided with a slot, a ferrule surrounding said section having an opening alining therewith, a tube within said slotted section, a pistol barrel within the other section of the cane having a bore therethrough, the outer end of said barrel being reduced and threaded at its outer end, a tip for the cane threaded upon said barrel end adapted for closing the barrel when not in use, a cartridge magazine journaled within said tube having chambers adapted to successively aline with the bore of the barrel, a firing pin longitudinally shiftable toward and from the said magazine, an operating spring for the said pin. operative connections between the said pin and magazine whereby the magazine is partially revolved at each rearward movement of the pin, a pivoted hook member within the tube detachably engaging the pin, a folding trigger connected to said hook member projecting through said slot and opening for rearwardly shifting the hook member, and means within the tube adapted for engagement by the hook member when said hook member and trigger are at the rear extremity of their movement whereby said hook member is automatically disengaged from the pin during the firing operation.
