Description

.;A.F. CABLIN. SHELF SUPPORT. APPLICATION FILED MAR. 2f, 19H].
Patented N 01 12, 1918 is to provide an improved ARVID F. CARLIN', OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
snnLr-sorron'r.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Anvio F. CARLIN, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New. York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shelf- Supports, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the 'same.
This invention relates to advertising shelf supports 0r frames, and the object thereof device of this class in which the shelf is made detachable or removable; a further object being to provide shelf supports of the class specified which may be suspended or supported in different ways, and which are preferably composed of spring wire: andwith these and other objects in view the invention consists of a device or devices of the class specitied, constructed and operated as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters ineach of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a shelf support or holder involving my invention, and of oblong and rectangular form and which may be supported or suspended in different ways;
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 a view similar to Fig. 1 butshowing a shelf support or hanger of triangular form;
Fig. 4; a section on the line 4-l of Fig. 3; and,
Fig. 5 a view similar to Fig. 2 but show ing only one corner of the device and showin" the same on an enlarged scale.
In the practice of my invention, as shown in Fig. 1,1 provide an oblong rectangular frame a composed of two similar end members 12, each of which is preferably composed of a single piece of spring wire bent to form a loop or eye 72 and one end portion of which is bent to form a vertical back side member 6 and the other end portion of whiehf'is bent to form a forwardly and downwardly inclined top member 6 a vertical front side member o anda horizontal bottom member bi.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 12, 1918.
Application filed March 21, 1918. Serial No. 223,684.
The back vertical member 6 is provided with inwardly directed loops forming supporting lugs at N, b and 7) and the bottom end of the part b is also formed into a 100 or eye 11 and the front vertical member is also provided at the points I), b and b with inwardly diremed loops forming supporting lugs and the bottom part b is passed down through the loop or eyeb and secured thereto as shown at b.
The shelf support or frame shown in Fig. 1 is intended for three shelves but only two are shown, and these shelves 0 are made of sheet metal and provided with raised side and end flanges c which are U-shaped in form and open downwardly, and the corners of the flanges c are cut. out as shown at c in Fig. ,5, to form recesses to receive the frame members and b which are sprung thereinto, this operation being facilitated, of course, by the elastic qualities of the frame members 6 and said shelves when i in position are supported on the inwardly directed lugs formed by the loops b b b, b, I), and b, and the end frame members 6, as will be seen, are thus connected by the shelfmembers butthc shelves may be detached from the frame members whenever desired, or said frame members may be de-- tached from the shelves.
In the construction shown in Fig. l, the frame when in use is supported from a vertical support against which it hangs, by screws, nails or other devices passed through the loops or eyes I); but in Fig. 2 I have shown a modification in which the end frame members 6 are made in the form of an inverted V, as shown at I), and this form is also indicated in Fig. 1 in dotted lines, and with this construction the frame a maybe suspended from any suitable support in any desired position.
In Figs. 3 and 4 I have shown my improvement applied in the making of a triangular shelf support which consists of a vertical back member 1), vertical slde and front members (7 horizontal bottom memportmay be suspended, and this form of construction is also provided with shelf supporting inwardly directed loops or lugs cl formed in the same manner as the corre- Letters Patent, is
A shelf support of the class described, said I support being composed of spring Wire and comprising corner members provided with inwardly directed supporting lugs on which the shelves rest, said shelves being composed of sheet metal and provided with raised flanges which open downwardly and the corners thereof being cut out to receive the corner members of the support:
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing Witnesses this 19th day of March 1918.
' ARVID F. CARLIN.
