CIGARETTE CASE'AFTD LIGHTER..
e To all whom it may concern: I I 4 Be it known that I, ERcoLr. Lammmfa M subject of the King of Italy, and a resident of the city. of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented anew and Improved Cigarette Case and Lighter, of whichthe following is a full, clearfand exact description. L
This invention relate to cigarette cases 6r the like and has .particular reference to a combined cigarette case or holder and lighter providing a device whereby throughthe operation of one hand only the operator may eject a cigarette from the case, light the same while being'drawn fro the case and. close the case to return these-me to his pocket.

manner of use and operation of the improve-- Among the special. objects therefore of the invention is to provide a cigarette case adapted to hold a considerable number ofv cigarettes, said case having combined with it automatic lighting means so constructed or arranged with respect to the first mentioned part of the case as to make possible the lighting of the cigarette while a portion of it is still within the case but with one end of the cigarette projected and grasped between the With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter. described and claimed, and while the inventioii is not restricted to the exact details of construction disclosed or suggested herein, still for the purpose. of illustrating a prac-' tical embodiment thereofireference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which like reference charactersdesignate the same parts in the several views, and in which' Figure 1 1s a perspective view showlng the 'ment.

detail oh the the swinging open I convenience of description as primary and I secondary parts 10 and '11, respectively,
' hinged together at the front along a vertical axis 12. The primary part is arranged to constitute a'. receptacle for ;a series of cigarettes C arranged horizontally and'parallelto one another in a single layerr 13 indicates aspring'pressed follower serving to hold the cigarettes advanoed'toward the top of the primary part 10 so that there shall provide an ejector 15 having an. outside finger piece at the top of the device and a forwardly and downwardly projecting claw 15' which lies normally against the inner wall of the front part of the'casin in position to abut squarely against the 1111181 end of the uppermostcigarette: acts upon the ejectorto normally hold it inthe position just indicated and against the force of this spring the ejector may be operated by the smokers finger rearwardly to eject the cigarette far enough through the A spring 16 pening 14- to begraspedbetween his lips.
I he secondary part 11 of the device comprises two features, namely, the igniting device and an auxiliary holder 17 foran extra supply of cigarettes shown at C and arranged vertically, The igniting device includes a tank 18 for benzene or other suitable inflammable liquid "from which a wick 19' leads through the top and is;sofpositioned.
that its upper 'end will be in the field of a spark .fromany suitable or well known sparking mechanism 20 made operative by the'snapp'ing open of a spring operated lid 21 held normally closed by means of a catch 22 adapted to be pressed at the front edge. of the case by the operators finger after the ejector'1 5has been actuated. The'secondary portionof the case includes an inner wall or partition 23 having a window 2% fprm ed therethroughxadjacent to the taper no i ' inhales through 19 or directly. between said taper andthe exposed inner end of the cigarette that has been projected outwardly through the opening 14 as a result of the actuation of the ejector 15. This will be understood from Fig; 7 in which the cigarette is indicated as being closed by a screw plug 26 at the bottom.
portion of thedevice providing for access to the auxiliary holder 17.
From'the foregoing specific description of the construction, its method of operation may be briefly summarized a follows: A smoker equipped with one of these combination devices-withdraws it from his pocket and grasping the same between his thumb and last three fingers of one hand, operatesthe ejector 15 With his index finger With'the result that the uppermost cigarette-is proj ected through the opening 14 far enough for the extending end to be grasped by and between his lips. The index finger is then shifted to depress thecatch'22 setting the lid 21 free to snap open freely under the force of its spring. This action of the lid 21 causes a spark from the igniting device to light the flame with the cigarette grasped between his lips, the icigarette in the usual manner causing the flame from the torch 19 to pass inwardly through the window 24: where it is drawn directly against the inner end of the cigarette Whose other end is between his lips. See Fig. 8. This flame has no effect on the next cigarette or any other in the case because it is drawn directly into the exposed end of the uppermost cigarette.
' When this cigarette is lighted the operator using the same index finger will snap, the p A lid 27 is hinged at 28 to the secondary at 19. Theoperator then,-
that I provide a simple, convenient and reliable combination smokers case through the" use of which with one hand only the smoker may deliver and light his cigarettes.-
1. A cigarettecase and lighter, comprising two hinged members, one member being adapted to hold cigarettes and provided with an opening in its inner face and an opening in one end, near :the top, means for holding the uppermost cigarette in alinement with the end opening, and means for pro ecting a cigarette through said opening, the other member having an igniting dev ce, a cover operatlng the igniting device upon opening the same, and having an opening in its inner face adjacent its hinged edge and lying posite the opening-in the inner face of first member.
2. A cigarette holder and lighter, comprising a casing adapted to contain cigarettes, said casing having an opening in its inner face and an opening in one end, a spring pressed follow r in the casing, a sliding and spring pressed ejector on the top of the casing, andhaving a member extending into the ca'sing'to engage the end of a cigarette to project it through the end opening of the casing, a memberhinged to the easing to fold against the same over the opening thereof and having'an opening adjacent to its hinged edge and lying opposite the inner end of the opening in the inner face of the casing, said member carrying an igniting device adjacent the opening thereof and provided with ahinged cover operating the igniting device.
