Be it known that I, BERNARD R; LE ROY, a

citizen of the United States, residing at Zanesville, in the county of Muskingum and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuspidor Handling Devices, of which the following is a specification. v

The present invention relates to cuspidor handlingdevices and has for its main Object, the provision of a simpleeffective device for accomplishing the purposes of the invention.

The feature ofthe invention is in theprovision 'of a twisted or threaded rod having a swab on' one'end thereof, and in the provision of a pair of gripping tongs on the other end of the" rod normally held open and adapted to be closedmanually, the rod being rotated by a slidable block facili'tatethe swabbing or cleaning of the cuspidor.

Another feature resides in loosely mounting the' i that the latter may be rotated relative thereto, the gripping tongs thus providing a handle for holding the rod in operative position. while being rotated by theslidable block. c

Other features will be apparent from the construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and finally pointed out in the appended claims.

The loop member 12- surounds the shanks o of the tongs and its arms are curved in cross section, as shown in Fig. 3, so as to form a casing or retainer for a coil spring 13 disposed between the arms of the loop. It will be noted that with this construction, the spring 13 will move and normally hold the jaws in open position relative to each other and when it is desired to grasp a cuspidor for the purposes of transporting it from place to place, the jaws a of the tongs are placed about the cuspidor and the shank portions grasped by the hand and moved together. It may be found desirable however, to provide a leaf spring between the tongs instead of the means herein shown.

From the foregoing, it will be clear that a novel device is providedwhich will be found most desirable in the cleaning and handling of cuspidors and whose parts are so associated that it may be operated with great facility. It is to be understood that certain changes in the construction combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to that fall within the legitimate scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed is 2- 1. A cuspidor handling device comprisingin combination with a handle, a curved stationary jaw secured to the handle, a second curved jaw pivotally connected to the handle, a loop formed on the stationary jaw and encircling the pivoted jaw, said loop having its inner faces concaved, and a coil spring received between the two jaws and adapted to be received in the concaved portion of the loop 2.
