HERBERT HASTINGS, OF ROCHESTER; NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO ART IN BUTTONS,
- INCORPORATED, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
FEEDING TABLE FOR BUTTON-BLANKS.
To all whom it may concern;
State of New Yorlnhave inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Feeding- Tables for Button-Blanks; and I: do hereby declare thefollowing to be a full. clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specification. and to the reference-numerals marked thereon.
M present invention relates to a feeding table for button blanksand has for its'object to provide means for holding a plurality of spaced button blanks in proper position for delivery to a series of work piece holders through the medium of any suitable transferring mechanism. i I
A furtherfobject of the invention is to provide adjustable means for holding differentsize blanks in position upon a feed table for delivery to a series ofwork piece holders of any approved type. To these and other ends the invention consists in certain improvements and combinations of parts, all as will be hereinafter more fully described, the novel features being pointed out in the claims at theend of the specification.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view illustrating one embodiment of my invention;
Fig. 2 is a similar view with certain'parts removed to more clearly illustrate the mechanism for properly centering the work pieces upon the table;
Fig.3 is an enlarged sectional view taken on line aa of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on line bb of Fig. 1. y
Similar reference characters in the several figures indicate the same parts.
Illustrating the present embodiment 'of the invention I preferably provide alfeeding table for button blanks as indicated at 10, upon which the workpieces or button blanks, previously prepared and assorted,
are positioned by an attendant.
l The feeding table -is provided ,Wl'fh equidistantly spaced 'notches 11 over which'the centers of the blanks, such as 12, are placed and heldby pressure'of spring fingers 13.

Application filed November is, 1915. SerialNo. 61,839.
to the periphery of the latter, the table is provided with centering devices or spacers which may be adjusted in accordance with thesize and character of the button blank stock to be operated upon. Thecentral porlar hub or shoulder 14 surrounded by a ring 15 having outwardly projecting gage fingers 16, located between the slots 11 in the table. Also journaled on the hub, above the plate 15, is a ring 17 provided with a plurality of notches 18 which receive the short arms 19 20 on the plate 21. at the base of each cage finger 16. The arms 22 of each of the bell crank levers extend laterally from their re spectivegage fingers across the slots 11 in the feeding table and are movable inwardly and outwardly, by an oscillatory movement of the ring 17 to vary the distance between them and between the edge of the table whereby diiferent size blanks may be acto position the gave .fingers 16 laterally relatively to the slots in the table and the latter to move the fingers 22 inwardly or outwardly on the face of the table. I The lever for ad usting the plate 15 is indicated by 25 and is pivoted at the point 26 on one of the pivot pins 20, and is provided with an elongated aperture 27 into which extends a p n 28 projecting outwardly from the'plate 15 through a slot 29 in the ring 17 and a corresponding aperture in the plate21. The
inner end of the lever 25 is slotted at 30 and cooperates with a clamping screw 31. The point 26 being stationary an oscillatory movement of the lever 25 will cause the lowermost ring 15 to be shifted back and forth. A similar lever 32 is pivoted at 33 on another of the pivot pins 20 and cooperates with the pin 34 on the intermediate ring 17 to oscillate the latter whereby all of the bell crank arms 22 may be simultaneously tion of the table is provided with an annuof small bell crank levers pivoted on pins adjusted toward or from their respective table slots 11. This lever is also secured in operative position by a clamping screw 35. The feeding table is mounted n a horizontal position upon the upper end of a vertical shaft 36 operatively connected with a portion of a button turning machine (not shown), with which said feeding mechanism coiiperates.
Arranged at one side of the feeding table 10 is a platform 3? on which quantity of the button blanks may be retained. The surface of this platform lies in the plane of the upper face of the feeding table and its adjacent edge is curved and arranged in juxtaposition thereto, so that the button blanks may be readily transferred from the platform into proper position on the feeding table and adjusted by the attendant beneath the springs 13 and in engagement with the gage fingers 16 and 22.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a blank teed table, the combination with a table plate arran ed to receive a plurality of blanks, of a ring rotatahly adjustable thereon and provided with a plurality of spaced outwardly projecting fingers adapted to position said blanks at predetermined points upon the table.
2. In a blank teed table, the combination with an annular plate having its periphery provided with spaced notches, ot a ring journaled on the plate and provided with outwardly projecting fingers located be tween the notches, said fingers extending beyond the inner ends of the notches, and means for securing the ring with its fingers in adjusted position relatively to said notches. I V
3. In a blank feed table for button n1a ing machines, the combination with an annular plate having its periphery provided with spaced notches, and a central project ing hub portion,.oi a ring surrounding the hub and provided with fingers corresponding to said notches, a pivoted lever arm and an operating connection between it and said ring to adjust the latter and simultaneously move its several fingers relatively to their respective notches.
4 in a blank teed table, the combination with an annular plate and a ring thereon having outwardly extending spaced fingers, of blank centering members above said ring and adjustable outwardly relatively to the fingers.
5. In a blank feed table for automatic machines for operating upon blank work pieces, the combination with an annular plate provided with a plurality of spaced notches in its periphery, a plate overlying it and having fingers arranged between said notchesand forming side gage members and means for adjusting them relatively to the notches, of centering gage members above the notches and adjustable inwardly and outwardly relatively thereto.
6. in a blank teed table "for automatic ma chines for operating upon blank workpieces,
eeann-z? the combination with a table plate having an edge provided with notches and a gage plate adjustable thereon having fingers adapted to be located relatively to said notches to determine the lateral position of blanks in respect to said notches, and gage members adjustable inwardly and outwardly relatively to the edge of the table plate for varying the position of blanks placed on the table plate.
7. In a blank teed table for automatic machines for operating upon blank work pieces, the combination with a table plate having an edge provided with notches and a gage plate adjustable thereon having fingers adapted to be located relatively to said notches to determine the lateral position 01": blanks in respect to said notches, of
a plurality of pivoted levers having their outer ends positioned relatively to'said lateral gage fingers and an adjusting plate engaging the inner ends of said levers for simultaneously adjusting them. 7
8. In a blank feed table for automatic machines for operating upon blank work pieces, the combination with a table plate, a gage plate mounted thereon having spaced fingers adapted to determine the lateral positionot blanks placed on the table and means for adjustably securing theplate on the table with its several arms fixed relatively to given centering points on said table, ota plurality of pivoted crank arms having their outer ends arranged to cooperate'with the gage fingers to determine the innermost position of blanks, an adjusting member 00- operating with the inner ends of the cranks and adjusting devices for moving the memher to simultaneously operate said cranks.
