Application filed June 24, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AGNAR Jonnson, a subject of rthe King of Sweden, residing at Albert Lea, in the county of Freeborn and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mechanical 1 03 5, of which the following is a specific;
tion.
This invention relates to improvements in carried by the toy to move in a life-like manner. A further object is to provide a toy of this type that will be simple in construction, durable, and amusing to the younger members of society. With the foregoing and other objects in View the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification and in which a Figure 1 is a View of mytoy in side elevation. two positions of the movable pants of the toy being shown. i i Fig. 2 is a toplplan view of the toy.
Like reference characters denote corre sponding parts in both views.
The body portion of my toy comprises a bar 1 pr'ovided'at one end with the handle 2, the opposite end 3 being thickened slightly, said bar being formed between its ends with the enlarged portion 4 wherein the elongated slot '5 is formed. A disk or wheel 6 is v mounted at the thickened en'd of t-he bar 1 object .8, the
transversely through the bar 1.
and a pitman' 7connects said wheel. to an object in this case representing a rui ming horsc, said object 8 being pivotally arranged upon a pintle 9 which extends Another object 10, representing another horse, is also mounted pivotally upon the said pintle 9 upon'tho'opposite side of bar with relation to the horse 8. -A third'object 11, in this case representing a jockey, extends through the slot 5 of bar 1 and is pivotally mounted upon a pin 12 extending through said slot,
the arms 13, l3 'of part-ll being disposed Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 15. 1918. Serial No. 241,674.
above the bar 1 and the legs 14: being disposed below that bar. The legs 14: are titted with relation to the body portion of the object and one lcg is connected by pitman 15 to the pitman 7; The arm 13 fixed with relation to the body portion of the object 11' andis connectedby pitman 16 to the horse 10. The arm 13 is pivotally connected to the body portion 11 said arm. being connected by pitman 17 to the horse 8, said arm 13 carrying the whip 18 As the wheel or disk 6 is rotated by movement back and forth over a surface the pit- -man 7 will impart a rocking motion in a rotary direction to the horse 8, the pitman 15 will impart a similar movement to the object 11 which object, through the medium of itsarnilS and pitman 16 will'impart a similar motion to the horse 10. The pitman 17 will transmit a rocking or striking mo tion to the whip-arm 13* giving the jockey or object 11 the appearance of striking the horses with the whip,18. Movement is so transmitted to the horses that they rock synchronously but in opposite directions. The general impression conveyed by moving the toy back and forth over a surface is that of the horses galloping and the jockey striking at them with his whip and so urging them on.
