COMBINATION POLICEMANS TBUNCHEON AND EXTENSION lPlsToL-IBARREL;
1 Patented Oct.8,1918.
Application filed December 4, 1916. Seria1 No. 134,912.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LEDWARO NORTON VMOOR, citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Policemens Truncheons and Extension Pistol-Barrels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved attachment kismall fire arms, such as pistols, and the 1 e. H
The object of the invention is to provide an improved form of a policemnns truncheon which will serve as a barrel extension of a pistol.
The invention will be hereinafter fully set forth and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 shows a side view of a policemans truncheon, containing the extension barrel, shown in dotted lines and the pistol attached thereto. Fig. 2 shows a sectional elevation of the truncheon, with the end of the-pistol barrelinserted. Fig. 3 shows a front-view of the truncheon. Figs. 4 and 5 show a top view and sectional view, respectively, of the outer cap. Figs. 6 to 12 show various details hereinafter more fully described.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates a pistol of any desired type, and 11 is a policemans truncheon provided with a longitudinal bore in which is located an extension barrel 5, preferably formed of seamless drawn tubing, threaded on its lower end and provided with a locknut 6. A front view of locknut 6 is shown in Fig. 10 and a sectional elevation in Fig. 11.
Secured in simple manner to the upper end of extension barrel 5, is a sleeve 7, containing a brass insert 8, finished on the exposed end to conform to muzzle of pistol 1. Sleeve 7 is threaded on the outside and screwed into an adjustable locking sleeve 9 extending into an enlargement of the bore of the truncheon 11, near the handle end thereof. A ferrule 10, of which a front view is shown in Fig. 4, is fitted to the handle end of club 11, the sleeve 9 and ferrule 10 being held in place by a screw 12. A locknut 13, screwing on sleeve 7 serves the purpose I. Said sleeve 9 is provided with two outs 9%, as ShOWn in Figs. 6 and 7 Locknut 6 eX- ercises a pull upon sleeve 9, tending to draw the tapered end thereof intO ferrule 10, thereby compressing it. The locknut 14, b bearing against a. shoulder in bore of clu regulates the compression and insures accurate fit of gun barrel 1 to the inside of sleeve 9.
A rear eight 15 is provided, a screw 16,
recessed to receive a pin 17 and spring 18 are inserted in club 11, substantially as shown, the spring 18 normally projecting pin 17 to form a front sight. Locknut 6 is provided with two transverse or radial grooves 19, to permit turning of same by means of key 20, shown in Fig. 12.
Having thus explained the nature of the invention, and describedan operative manner of constructing and using the same, although without attempting to set forth all of the forms in which it may be made, or all of the forms of its use, the following is claimed 1. An extension attachment for pistols comprising a member provided with a cylindrical bore having a chamber-like enlargement at one end, a barrel in said bore, a split pistol-engaging sleeve within said enlargement, said sleeve having a tapered portion, means for engaging said tapered portion, and means for drawing said tapered portion into engagement with said engaging means for contracting said split sleeve.
2. An extension attachment for pistols comprising a member provided with a cylindrical bore having a chamber-like enlargement at one end, a barrel in said bore, a split pistol-engaging sleeve within said enlargement connected to said barrel, said sleeve having a tapered portion, means for engaging said tapered portion, and means for en gaging said barrel for drawing said tapered portion into engagement with said engaging means.
3. An extension attachment for pistols c pris ng a memb rprov ded withga airli e-5i drical bore having a chamber-like enlarge ment at one end a barrel insaid bQIfl itIh in-H ternally threaded pistol engaging sleeve- Within said enlargement,. an externally threaded member attached to one end of said barrel andiengaginggsaida sleeve a nut;v 'Wcrking on said externally threaded mem-.. ber; and positionedatoi abut; against said "pi s to -engaging sleeve, a second nut on said externally threaded member forertgagi-ngthe comprising a membe'r prov-ided with: a cylindrical" bore-having a chamber-like Ven'laflge;
