Be it known that I, ISAAC UNGEP., a citizen of the United States, residing at Iron Mountain, in the county of Dickinson and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combination Table and Aii-\loistener Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates particularly to devices adapted for use in connection with hot air registers, for imparting to the air the humidity which is desirable. As is quite generally understood, it is necessary that the air in a living-room, for instance, should possess a rather high degree of'humidity in order to give the best results. This is true from the standpoint of health, from the standpoint of comfort, and from the standpoint of economy. Thus, one is more comfortable, so far as warmth is concerned, in a properly moist atmosphere of 68o temperature than in a very dry atmosphere of 75 temperature. rilhe economy of heating a residence, for illustration, is greatly improved by providing the air with a proper degree of moisture, and at the same time the discomfort which arises from breathing dry air is obviated.

Notwithstanding the fact that the desirability of moistening the air is rather generally known, the people do not commonly avail themselves of this advantage, particularly in places which are heated by means of hot air, for the reason that desirable devices are not provided for use in connection with hot .air registers.

The primary object of the present invention is to provide a useful article of furniture, of simple construction and capable of being cheaply manufactured, which may be used in connection with a hot air register to supply moisture to the atmosphere, and which may be at the same time employed as a table or taboret.

The invention is illustrated in its preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawing in which- Figure l represents a combination table and air-moistening device constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 an end elevational view of a table embodying the invention, the construction being moditied so as to be better adapted to a wallregister; Fig. 3, a sectional view taken as indicated at line 3 of Fig. l; Fig. 4, a broken sectional perspective view of one of the legs of the table; Fig. 5, a broken perspective view of the socket or rim which supports the demountable evaporator-pan employed; Fig. 6, a broken perspective view, showing one corner of a shelf or table employed; and Fig. '7, a broken perspective view, showing one corner of the evaporator-pan,employed.

Referring to the construction illustrated in Figs. l and 3, represents al floor provided with a hot air register l; B, my improved combination table and air-moistener disposed over the register l. The device B comprises four legs 2; a table-top 3 supported thereby; an intermediate shelf 4; and an evaporator 5 supported by a rectangular rim or socket 6 secured to the legs a short distance above their lower ends.

The preferred manner of constructing the device is that illustrated. The legs 2 may be either of wood or metal. The socket or rim 6 is securely attached to inwardly projecting lugs of sleeves or fittings 7 which are detachably and adjustabiy secured on the legs 2. The evaporator-pan 5 has an outwardlyturned flange a adapted to be supported on the horizontal flange 61 of the rim or socket 6, which, as clearly appears from Fig. 5, is preferably of angular cross-section. The intermediate table or shelf 4 is preferably of sheet-metal and detachably connected with lugs carried by adjustable and detachable sleeves or ttings 8 which are secured on the legs 2 at an intermediate point. The table-top 3 is secured to lugs of detachable tubular members or fittings 9 applied to the upper ends of the legs 2. The upper ends of the members 9 are preferably closed, thus forming caps, as appears from Fig. 4. The fittings 9 are secured to the legs by set-screws 9a. The sleeves 7 are split and equipped with clamping screws 7a; also, the sleeves 8 are split and equipped with clamping screws 8a. The structure is thus of knock-down type; and the intermediate shelf and the evaporator may be interchanged to provide a. device adapted for use with a wall-register.

The table is of large enough base to rest upon the floor and clear the register l, the evaporator-pan 5 being thus disposed just a short distance above the hot air register. The pan 5 may be kept lled with water. When desired, it may be removed from the socket 6, for the purpose of cleansing.

In Fig. 2, B1 represents a modification of the device, adapting it for use in connection with a wall-register la. In the modification,

the intermediate shelf and the evaporator are transposed, that is, a shelf 4L is secured to the legs 2 a short distance above the floor; and the evaporator 5a is demountably supported at an intermediate position. The

table-top 3a is applied to the upper end of c the legs, as in the construction shown in Figs. l and 3. In this case, the 'hot air issuing from the register ivill pass largely beneath the pan 5a, thus causing the Water to evaporate freely.

The improved article of furniture' not only provides for the moistening of the air in the room, but provides also a convenient support for books, periodicals, etc., which may be used by a person seated near the register. The device is self-contained and portable, being preferably equipped With casters. The economy of keeping arooni comfortably Warm is very greatly enhanced, and the discomfort and dangerl to health arising from breathing, While indoors, air which does not correspond in humidity with the humidity in the eX- ternal atmosphere is obviated.

The improved device can be manufactured cheaply and supplied to the public at a moderate price, -thus 'encouraging the use of a device which should be in general use in houses or buildings heated by means :of hot air. Y
