To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, ISAAC PATRICK, a subject of the King of Great Britain, having taken out my first papers for naturalization as a citizen of the United States, and residin at Hastings, in the county of Barry and gtate of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blank- Holder Toggle-Movements for Drawing Presses; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to, the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification. V
This invention is a novel improvement in so-called toggle-drawing-presses and has particular reference to that class of machines in which a blank-holder is employed to hold the work while the same is being operated upon. 7 p
The present invention particularly relates to the mechanism for operating the blankholder, and I will firstexplain the same with reference to the. accompanying drawings, which illustrate one. practical embodiment of the invention, and then summarize in the claims the essential features and combination of parts for which I desire protection.

be operated in the usual manner by suitable gearing which it is not necessary to show or describe in detail.
A blank-holder A, of a well known type, is shown surrounding the plunger B and suspended by adjustable bolts D from yokes C, which yokes are connected, at the opposite sides of the machine, by pairs of links E, E to arms F, F on rock shafts S, S, which shafts are j ournaled insuitable bearings on the sides of the main frame of the press and near the top thereofin the usual manner.
, At one side of the machine the shafts S and S are provided with crank arms G, G, to which arms areconnected toggle links H, H that in turn are pivotally connected together at 0; this pivot 0 being attached to a lever J, which is pivotally connected at one end to a crank K on the adjacent end of the main shaft T, crank K being so disposed relatively to the crank t that the blank-holder will be actuated at the proper time and in the desired relation to the movement of the plunger B.
The lever J extends beyond the pivotal connection (J of the links H, H thereto and its free end, opposite its connection to the crank it, is engaged with a guiding cam member N. This cam member is preferably a fixed race cam, and it is engaged by a roller M on the end of lever J as indicated in the drawings. The roller M is securely fastened to the free end of lever J butis free to move around the cam member N.
As the shaft is rotated the lever J will be oscillated by the crank and the roller M will traverse the race way in cam mem ber N and so guide the upper end of the lever J as to keep the pivot O in the desired relation to the shafts S, S, at all times.
Operation.
The main shaft T is operated bysuitable gearing in the usual manner so as to reciprocate the plunger B. As the shaft T revolves the lever J, being attached at one end to crank K, moves with said crank, but the movement of the upper or free end of said lever is controlled by the engagement of roller M with the cam.N. This cam isso shaped that the path traversed by the roller M has such relation to the path of the pivot connecting lever J to crank K that the fulcrumhpoint O, or connection between the links H and H, Will travel in an approximately vertical line, or perpendicular to the shaft T andintermediate theshafts S, S.

In the example-shown the blank-holder dwells during a period of not less than 90 degrees "Whilecra'nlr' K is passing over the top center of the cam member, and thetog gl'e" formed by the blank-holder connections will dwell on the drawing stroke until the crankshaft T has passed through an arc of 90 degrees.
