To all whom it may] concern. Be it known that I, DAVE DAVIES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salt Lake City, in the county of Salt Lake and State of Utah have'invented new and use-. ful Water-Gage Cocks, of-which the following is a specification. r
My invention relates towater gage cocks. The primary object of my invention is to provide improved means whereby the valve head may be permanently or temporarily unseated to test the condition of a boilerby simply increasing the anglethrough which the manually operatedhand wheel is turned. A coordinate object of my invention is to decrease the number'of' its parts to a minimum without a corresponding loss of func tion. It is well known that gage cocks become corroded through contact with the fluid issuing from the boiler to which they are attached, consequently the elimination of unnecessary parts is a very important factor.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Figure 1 is a plan view of my invention showing a portion of the same in cross section to illustrate fully its various details;
Fig. 2 is taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1, the inner auxiliary casing being in elevation;
Fig. 3 is a cross section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1, and has special reference to the valve head embodied in my invention.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, like characters of reference. indicate like or similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring particularly to Fig. 1 wherein is illustrated my device with its various parts assembled, the numeral 1 designates a portion of the boiler wall which is provided with an internally screw threaded opening for the reception of an externally screw threaded extension 2 of the valve casing 3. The extension and valve casing 3 are provided with a central bore 4 adapted to allow flow of fluid from the boiler whereby the same may be tested as occasion demands.

:- It has beenfound. desirable to provide my valve casing with a semispherical seat 5 for engagement by'the valve housing 6, which is provided it with an elongated groove 7 conimunicating with the central bore 4 hereinbefore mentioned. Said housing 6 is threaded adjacent its periphery for engagement withthe threaded annular extension 8 of a cap -9 which is screwed into the casing as at 10. An annular-enlargement 11 is provided upon the said cap for abutment with the end of the casing as is illustrated clearly in Fi 1. Thecap 9 has a central bore 12. and is provided upon one end with a cam surface 13 and in the other end with a counterbore 14.
Operative within the central bore 12 is a valve comprising an elongated stem 15 and a head 16 provided with an opening 17 adapted for registry with a right angular outlet passage 18 formed in the body portion of the cap 12 and having a nozzle 18. Seated between the valve head and the body portion of the cap 12 and in the counterbore 14 is a washer l9 constituting a valve seat and hav ing an opening 20 for registry with the open ing of passage 18 and notched to receive a lug or shoulder 21 extending from and formed in the body portion of the cap 9, as is clearly illustrated in Fig. 1.
An adjustable collar 22 is secured to the external portion of the valve stem 15, and is provided with a cam 24: adapted for engagement with the cam 13 hereinbefore mentioned.
A hand wheel is secured in any suitable manner to the terminal end of the valve stem for the purpose which will hereinafter appear.
The operation of my invention is as follows:
When the cam sections 13 and 24: are disposed in a position such as is illustrated in Fig. 1, the openings 17 and 20 and the passage 18 are in registry. and immediately upon rise of water or steam in the boiler, fluid will flow through said passage, and consequently indicate to the operator the level of the water. When it is desired to shut off the valve entirely, the hand wheel is revolved until the valve head is axially moved into binding engagement with the washer 19, consequently unregistering the openings 17 and 20 and causing the fluid flow to be discontinued. By revolving the hand wheel through a lesser angle the valve head, although the opening 17 is moved to a position out of registry with opening 20, is disposed in spaced relation to the washer 19 so that a small portion "of fluid may pass around its periphery and out through the exhaust channel.
' The valve housing 6 prevents the accumulation of dirt and other substance which might impair the action of the valve.
' Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is:
l. A gage cock, including a casing provided with an'intake port, a cap for the casing provided with a counterbore and a discharge duct,- a shoulder on the cap and projecting into the counterbore, a washerfitting the counterbore and provided with a notch for the reception of the shoulder and with an orifice communicating with the duct, said Washer providing a valve seat, a disk valve adapted to the seat and having" an eccentric opening to register with the orifice when the valve is in one position, ahousing for the valve detachably secured to the cap and having an opening to register with the intake port, and means'foroperating the valve.
QLVA gage cock, including a casing provided with an intake port, a cap for the casing provided with a counterbore and a d18- charge duct, a shoulder on the cap andprojecting into'thecounterbore, a washer fitting the counterbore and provided with a' notch for the reception of the shoulder and with an orifice communicating with'th'e duct, said washer providing a valveseat, a disk valve adapted to'the seat and having) an eccentric opening to registerwith the orifice when the'v a'lve'is inone position, and means for operating the valve.
