My invention relates to the construction of: draft rigging for railway Gers and is more particularly directed to certain structural features whereby the coupler and yoke are 4pivotally eomiected inf a strong anc reliable manner. In the form of construction illustrated in Figs. 1 to 5, inclusive, 1` indicates the cou-l pler and .is the draft vok'e of a draft rigging. The forward of the draft yoke 2 is hooded or socketed, being formed 'with sideI walls 6 integrally uniting the top and bottom walls'?. The yoke is also preferably provided with a transversely extending wall 8 which is adapted toengage the forward' follower .not shown) of the usual arrange ment of springs and followers within the yoke. A wall such as 8 not only braces and ties together the walls 6 and 7 ,of the draft yoke, thus increasing the strength of the structure, but also receives the buiiing shock from the car coupler 1 and communicates it to the forward follower, for which it affords a bearin of extended area. The inner faces 9 of the ateral walls 6, 6 of the yoke diverge outwardly so that the coupler receiving socket of the yoke is of a flaring form peruiitting the coupler to swing laterally when. the train is passing around a curve.
The' interior faces of the top and bottom walls 7 of the yoke, instead of being flat throughout, are preferably fashioned with longitudinally extending channels 10 which are of substantially the same dimensions, both in respect of depth and width, as the pivot lugs 4, and which receive the said pivot lugs. These channels 1() in conjunction with the flaring of the side walls 6 give to the coupler receiving socket of the draft yoke 2 a cruciform oross-section which is very strong and rigid. g l
Cooperating with the curved lforward faces of the pivot lugs 4 are bearing members 11 having correspondingly curved bearing faces'. These members 11 fit in the longitudinally extending channels 10 of the draft yoke, being thereby maintained against lateral movement. Their forward faces respectively engage transversely eX- tending bars or keys 12 which are removably mounted on the draft yoke so as to stand in horizontal alinement with the bearing members 11 in the path of removal. of theivot lugs 4 of the coupler.
