agpucation mea :une aa, 191s. in No. 241,383.
To all 'whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, Rans PRICHARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, i have invented new and useful v Improvements in Portable Frames for Mosquito-Bars, of which frame structure which is also capable of be composed of two U-shaped members, each ofl ing compactly folded for storage and transportation, enabling the complete 'device toV be carried as a part of a camping outit or equipment, the device being also useful in all places where 1t is desirable to protect the head, neck or face of a person while reclining or sleeping. 5
`With the above and other. objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as herein described, illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the .device in its applied relation to a cot or couch.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the frame of the device.
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation thereof.
Fig. et is an end view of the same.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the bar or net proper.
Fig, 6 is a perspective view oi the frame when folded.
The portable mosquito bar frame contemplated in this invention comprises a pair of U-shaped end members each designated gen` erally at A and comprising an upright bar 1 and upper and lower normally horizontal bars 2 and 3 extending at a right angle to the upright bar 1 and rearwardly from said bar 1 when the complete frame is in its useful position.
The rear portion of the frame is also which is designated generally at B, each of said members comprising an upright. bar 4r and upper and lower normally horizontal.4
bars and 6 respectively, which extend inwardly from the upright bar t. The inner extremities of the bars 5 and 6 of the members are formed with eyes 7 through which are inserted pivots 8, the upper and lower i pivots 8 being arranged in vertical alinement with each other, so that said rear portion of the frame structure may be folded at a central point. Theahorizontal bars 5 and 6 are also connected between the ends theref i* of -by vertical braces 9, the upper and lower extremities of whichy are formed into eyes 10 which embrace said upper and lower horizontal bars 5 and 6. The rear extremities of the upper and lower bars 2 and Spf the end.
frames A arey formed with eyes 11 to receive the adjacent vertical bar 4 of the contiguous section of the rear frame member B, thus forming a pivotal connection between the end frame sections and the rear frame sections, to assist in the folding operation of the completev frame structure.
The lower horizontal bars 3 of the end frames A are connected by a strip -12 ci fabric, such as canvas, the end portions of the canvas being formed ywith hems' 13 through whchlthe bottom bars 3 are inserted. The strip 12 forms what may be termed a flexible bed piece for the foldablc frame and limits the movement of the end frames away from each other. lin connection with the frame, thus far described and the Hexible bed piece or strip 12, I employ stretching members 14: as best illustrated in Fig. 2, each of said members being connected by a pivot 15 to the top bar 2 of one of the end frames, and said stretcher members 14 being connected together at their inner overlapping ends by means of a pivot 16, by moving the stretcher members 14 into longltudinal alinement with each other, as shown in Fig. 2,the:tlex`1ble bed piece 12 is stretched taut and the frame structure is also braced in its useful position. It is designed to place a pillow upon the flexible bed piece '12, and then to place over the entire frame structure a mosquito bar or ynet designated generally at 17, the same being formed to pro erly embrace the :frame structure, previousiy described, and embodying in this construction a exible base or bed piece 18 which is designed to be placed un ler the Hexible bed 12 and between the latter and the mattress or supporting surface of the cot or couch in conjunction with which the device, as a whole, is used. The weight of the head structure inv place and also conne -the net of the occupant thus serves to hold the frame or mosquito bar in its proper place. ti;
cient fullness is .allowed in the mosquito bar to enable the same to be draped over the ychest or' the occupant of the cot or couch.
ranged one above the other, a flexible bed piece connecting the lower portions ofthe end frame members, and serving to limit the voutward movement 0f said' end frame members, stretching means connecting said end frame members for pressing the lattery away from each other, and tensioning the Hexible bed piece.
2. A portable mosquito bar frame, embodying a pair of U-shaped end frame members, another pair of U-shaped members arranged at the rear of said end'members and connected therewith on vertical axes, said rear frame members being connected at their adjacent ends by vertical pivots arranged one above. the other, a flexible bed piece connecting the lower portions of the end frame members, and serving to limit the outward movement of said end frame members, and stretching means connecting said endframe members for pressing the latterpaway from each other and tensioning the flexible bed piece, said stretching means comprising a pair of stretching members pivotally conmerdes@ nected at their outer ends to the end frame members and having their inner ends overrear frame members being connected at their adjacent ends by vertical pivots arranged one above the other, a flexible bed piece connecting the lower portions of the end frame members, and serving to limit the outward movement of said end frame members, stretching means connecting said end t'rame members for pressing the latter away from each other and tensioning the flexible bed piece, said stretching lmeans comprising a pair of stretching members pivotally connectedat their outer ends to the end frame members and having their inner ends overlapped and pivotally connected centrally of the frame structure, and in transverse alinenient with the pivotal connection of the rear frame members, and a mosquito bar shaped to tit over and inclose said frame structure, said mosquito bar comprising a flexible bed piece adaptedv to underlie the flexible bed of the frame structure.
ln testimony whereof l atlix my signature.
