Description

UNITED STATES JAMES R. OLUXTON, OF HILLSBOROUGH, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHOE-FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,847, dated June 11, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES R. OLUXTON, of Hillsborough, in the county of Highland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Lacings; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, in Which- Figure 1 is a perspective of a shoe, showing the application of my invention; and Fig. 2, a side view of the hook, showing its peculiar form.
The nature of my invention consists in the peculiar construction of what may be termed the lacing-hooks for shoes, the object in view being not only to facilitate the lacing of shoes, but also to firmly secure the hooks thereto in a manner which at the same time shall be ornamental. v
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A represents the shoe, which is but the ordina-ry lace-gaiter opening in front. The place of opening, however, does not affect the principle of my invention, as it is apparent that the hooks are as applicable to gaiters opening at the sides as at the front. b b represent the hooks, which are constructed wit-h a head.
It is not material of what form or shape the head is made, so it is sufliciently large to prevent it from being pulled through the eyelets,
Qth which the shoe is provided for the purpose of slipping the hooks therein. d represents the cord or string, which is firmly secured at-the foot of the opening by any suitable means. A
The operation of my invention is very simple, as it is only necessary to alternately slip the cord over the books from bottom to top, or to such a distance up the opening as may be desired, and then draw and secure the upper end.
It may be observed, that when the hooks are inserted in the eyelets to prevent their coming out too easily they are fastened by means of needle and thread to the inner sides of the laps.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
. The hooks b b, constructed with heads and applied in the manner shown, and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoingas my own I affix my signature in presence of J, R. OLUXTON.
