V es' Be it known that l, BARRET OGAN, a citizen of the United States, residm at Fort Dodge, in the county of Ford and tate of Kansas, have invented certain new and. useful Improvements tions, of which the following is a speclcation.
This invention @relates to railway constructions and has primarily for an object to eliminate the use of wooden ties and to substitute a com osition tie thereforto which the rails will e secured without weakening the ties in anyway; to eliminate the use of spikes prevent lateral dlsplacement of the rails even should undue pressure be exerted thereon; and to provide means for positively preventing a partial displacement of any part of the railway. f v rlhe above and other objects and advan-| tages of this invention will be in part understood from the following description of the present preferred embodiment, the same being illustrated in the .accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of a railway construction made in accordance with my invention.

In the drawings, a plurality of ties 1 are shown which are preferably made of concrete or some analogous composition and have rails 2 mounted thereon in the usual way. A. pair of U-bolts 3 embrace the tie beneath each rail, the U-bolts bein provided with reduced screw threaded sha s 4s which project through openings in the base flange of the rails 2 and have nuts 5 threaded thereon. l
A trussed bracing structure is arranged between the rails 2 and consists of a bar 6 extending longitudinally of the trackway and transversely of the ties 1 and secured to the upper faces of the latter at points approximately midway between the rails 2. Bars 7 are laid across said bar 6 and are secured thereto by U-bolts 8. It will be noted that the -U-bolts 8 embrace the ties 1 intermediate the terminals of the latter, one end of each of said bolts being engaged through the bar in Railway Construc-l for securing therails to the ties; to:
6 and a pair of the bars 7, as shown to advantage in Fig. 3, while the other end merely engages through the bar 6 as shown to advantage in Fig. 1. The opposite ends of the bar 7 are superposed above leach other on the base flanges of the rails 2, the bars being held 1n engagement with said base flanges by the U-bolts 3. It will also be noted that one of the Shanks of each pair of U-bolts 3 passesl through the ends of the 'bars 7.
lnY view of the above described construction it will be appreciated that the ties 1 -will not in any way be weakened which would be the case if bolts, spikes, etc., were passed through the composition tie, but on the contrary the ties are strengthened by the U-bolts 3 and 8. Moreover the construction between the rails will positively hold the latter from lateral displacement. If undue pressure is brought to bear on said rails, it Will be necessary for the entire track construction to move as an entirety which as will be appreciated could not readily occur.
It will be understood that the above description and accompanying drawings comprehend only the general and preferred embodiment of my invention and that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion and arrangement of parts may be made within the scope of the appended claims without sacrificing any of the advana tages of my invention.
