Description

V* E. LANE.
ELECTFHC HAMMER.
APPLlcATIoN FILED AUG.6.1'917.
f MN' AM f the member will be shifted inwardly after each blow so as to again dispose the member 1G in the -path of the members 13. iV/hen the tool is not in use and the implementis held substantially in the position illustrated,
the block 15 will dropdown of its ownl weight so' as to withdraw the member 16 from the path of the members 13. Thus without any manipulation other than with- `v drawing the device from the Work and holding it in its natural position, the transmission of hammer blows to the tool may be discontinued without stopping'v rotation of the motor. Y
ln .Fig. 3 there is illustrated a slight modification of the invention consisting in subjecting' the member 15 to the action of a coiled spring 23 which tends to force said member inwardly and return the member 16 into the path of the members 13 after each hammer blow.
What I claim as' my invention is:
1. A hammer comprising a casing, am'otor therein comprising a stator and a rotor, and a strikingmember rot-tively driven by and partially embracing said motor.
A hammer comprising a casing, a motor therein and a striking member rotatively driven by the motor and having an annular outer portion surrounding the motor.
3. i hammer comprisinga casing having an annular interior flange, a motor within the casing having its iield yoke formed by a lateral projection from said flange, and a striking member rotatively driven by the' motor and `having an annular outer portion surrormding said field yoke. y
e. A hammer comprising a casing, u motor therein, a striking member having an annular portion surrounding the motor and having a plurality of impact members carried by said annular portion and having an engag-ement with the casing for transmitting re-actions ol' the hammer blows directly thereto. l
5. i hammer comprising a. casing having inmate an interior annular groove, a motor in said casing, and a striking member driven .by said motor having an annular portion en gaged in said groove and carrying a plurality of impact members retained by the walls .of said groove against lateralv displacement.
6. A hammer comprising a casing, a motor therein, a'striking member rotatively driven by Saidimotor, and a plurality of impactrollers mounted peripherally in the striking member and' projecting outwardly there from, said rollers being restrained against lateral displacement by the walls of the casing.
7. A hammer comprising a portable casing, a motor mounted in said casing, a striking member Within the casing driven by said motor, a member radially carried by the casingvto receive the hammer blows, and a handlefupon the casing in diametrically opposed relation to said member.
8. A hammer comprising a portable casing having a substantial radial extension, formed with a radial bore and constituting a tool socket, a strikingmember mounted'.
within said casing, a plurality of impact members rotatively carried by the striking the motor and having anannuiar outer portion surrounding said field yoke.
10. A hammer comprising a cylindrical casing having a radial extension', a motor within said casing ina symmetricalrelation lto the axis of said extension, a member sldably mountedin said extension, and a striking member Within the casing rota. tively driven by said motor, and having an annular portion surrounding theV motor engageable with said sliding member to actuate the latter outwardly.
In testimony whereof I vieron n Linn:
