APPLICATION HLED NOV. 28. ml.

J 0/272 Z6002! 632 WWIEM ATTOHTEY JOHN Ii. SCOTT, OF LATTA, SOUTHCAROLINA.
PLOW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. November 28, 1917. Serial No. 204,411.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that 1, JOHN L. Soon, a c1t1- zen of the United States, residing at Latta,
the following is a specification.
This invention relates to plows, and more particularly to a plow of that class used for cutting roots and similar purposes.
One of the main objects of the invention is to provide a plow of the character stated of simple construction and operation which may be produced at relatively small cost. A further object is to provide a plow having means for quickly and easily adjusting the inclination of the plow blade or stock, and for securing this member in adjusted position. Further objects will appear from the detailed description.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side view of a plow constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a section taken substantially on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary top plan view.
The plow is provided with a beam 1 to the forward end of which is secured a clevis 2. The rearwardly extending stilts or handles 3 are secured to the beam in the usual manner at their lower ends being held in proper relation thereto by the U-shaped brace 4 the upper ends of the arms of which are secured to the handles '3, the lower bar of this brace being inserted through a groove in the upper face of beamlbeneath a plate 5 set into the upper face of the beam at the rearward end thereof.
Plate 5 and the beam 1 are provided with alined slots 6 and 7, respectively. A link 8 is slidably mounted through these slots and has its upper end pivotally secured to a cam lever 9 which, when in operative position, serves to hold the link raised, as in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The link serves to support the rearwardly extending horizontal arm 10 of an adjusting brace bar 11 the forward end of which is pivotally secured, as at 12, to the plow blade or stock 13 adjacent the lower end thereof. The upper edge of arm 10 is provided with a plurality of transverse slots 14: which are adapted to be engaged by the downwardly clirected finger 15 of a locking plate 16 se cured on the nnderface of beam 1 adjacent 2 the rear edge thereof. A hand hold 17 is provided at the rearward end of arm 10 for adjusting the brace bar 11 either forwardly or rearwardly, as desired. The upper end of stock 13 is bifurcated and spread to provide a fork 18 which is pivotally se cured, as at 19 to the plow beam 1. The lower end of the stock is pivotally secured, as at 20 to the forward end of a runner 21, the rearward end of which is pivotally secured, as at 22, to a vertical brace 23 having an integral fork 2st at its upper end, this fork being pivotally secured to the beam 1, as at 25. The stock or blade 13 and brace 23, together with runner 21 and beam 1, constitute, in effect, a ointed parallelogram which is normally held rigid by the diagonally extending brace and adjusting bar 11. Normally, arm 10 of bar 11 is held raised by the cam lever 9 so as to maintainthe locking finger 15 of plate 16 in engagement with one of the slots 11, thus effectually preventing longitudinal movement of bar. 11 and maintaining the blade 13 in adjusted position. By turning lever 9 so as to lower arm 10 and disengage it from finger 15, this bar may be moved in either direction longitudinally so as to adjust the inclination of blade 13 to suit conditions. Brace bar 21 will at all times be parallel with beam 1, and the brace 23 and blade 13 will be maintained in parallelism, thus insuring that the blade will be properly braced and held in position and operation of the plow will not be interfered with. 7
It will be evident that there may be slight changes made in the construction and arrangement of the different parts of my invention without departing from the field and scope of the same, and I intend to in- Patented Sept. 3,1918. 1
elude all such variations, as fall within the scope of the appended claim in this application in which a preferred form only of my invention is disclosed.
What I claim is:
In a plow, a beam, a blade pivotally secured at its upper end thereto, a brace mounted in rear of said blade parallel therewith and pivotally secured at its upper end to the beam, a runner pivotally connecting the lower ends of said blade and brace, a brace and adjusting bar pivotally secured at its forward end to the said blade adjacent the lower end thereof and provided at its upper end with a rearwardly extending arm having its upper surface provided with finger and for securing it in raised position.
transverse slots, an adjusting plate secured In testimony whereof I ufl'ix my signature on the nndeifaee 01 said beam and provided in presence of two witnesses.
with :1 locking finger adapted to engage into JOHN L. SCOTT. said slots when the arm of said brace and Vitnesses:
adjusting bar is raised, and means for iais- D. B. SHINE,
