Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, GORDON W. BYRD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mena, in the county of Polk and State of Arkansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in T0baccoCans, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved tobacco can and match receptacle combined, the object of the invention being to provide an improved form of tobacco can or other container which is provided at one end with a compartment for the reception of matches or the like for the convenience of the user. with the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing 'Figure 1 is a perspective view partly in section, of a tobacco can constructed to form also a match compartment, in accordance with my invention.
Figs. 2 and 3 are detailed sectional views of the same.
My improved container which is here shown as a combined tobacco can and match box has a body 1 which is made from a single piece of sheet metal, preferably tin. The blank from which the body of the container is formed is provided at one end of one side wall 2 with an extended portion or tongue 3. This extended portion or tongue is bent inwardly at said end of the container to form a web l which bears against said wall and extends inwardly a suitable distance from said end of the container. The said web is then bent reversely as at5 to form. an inner web 6, which extends to (bout the center of the web 4, and said tongue is then bent at right angles to said inner web to form a bottom 7 which extends across the container, to the opposite side wall thereof, and which bottom is spaced from said end of the contamer.
A lid seat is hinged at said end of the container and to the last named wall and is adapted to close said end of the container, and in connection with the bottom 7 to form a compartment or pocket 8 for the reception of matches or the like, so that the user of the tobacco can carry matches in the same receptacle, and thus greatly promote the convenience and utility of the container.

My improved tobacco can is very cheap and simple, the provision of the match box or compartment thereof is a great convenience and is eifected at a very inconsiderable cost, and is a convenience which is highly appreciated by tobacco users. The container is in practice also provided with a suitable surface 10 on which the matches may be ignited.
