Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 3, 1918.
Application filed Novemberlfi, 1917. Serial No. 202,314.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. KUNsMAN, citizen of the United States, residing at WVashington, District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in File-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to improvements in file boxes and the object of the invention is to provide a box or drawer of peculiar construction so that the drawers can be readily and conveniently withdrawn and closed for safe keeping of pension cases, deeds and other valuable papers, and said papers be immediately accessible when the drawers are open and when wanted, the boxes or drawers at the same time will be of that character that they will be self-supporting when withdrawn from a shelf so that the papers will be easier obtainable.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts as will be hereinafter more in detail described and the asserted novelty specifically claimed.
I have fully and clearly illustrated my invention in the accompanying drawing in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my device.
F 2 represents a plan or top new showing one of the drawers or boxes in position on the shelf.
Fig. 8 represents the forms from which the construction of the drawer or box is made.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures 1n which A designates a shelf or housing for a mul tiple number of boxes. B designates a box or drawer of the usual rectangular construction composed of the side pieces I), Z) and end pieces 0, c and bottom piece d the latter and side pieces being' Copies of this patent may be obtained for end pieces being double seamed on the ends of the side and end pieces Z2 6 and d, then wired on the upper edges which completes the construction of the body of the box or drawer. The ends of the boxes or drawers are provided with the usual handles at C.
D- designates a label holder which is secured to the front end of the box.
D? designates the file board located inside of the box having round edges, one third of it is papered with blank paper for printing the row of numbers of the pension case in the box or any additional markings that may be necessary. The first'num'bers are printed on this paper with rubber letters. The'label holder and file board is secured in a perpendicular position by means of a round head or ordinary paper fastener F passed through a hole in the label holder, box and file board;
and clenched on the back of the board D.
E designates a slidable index slip located in the rear of the file board in the box. G designates a follower located centrally within the box or drawer B having the upper portion curved terminating in wire standards g g the lower portions of said standards g 9, being bent at right angles to the standards forming loops 9 g the free ends of the loops being twisted together as at h the loops of the follower serving as a spring to retain the'follower in a rigid position in the drawer.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The combination with the drawer, of a follower resting upon the bottom thereof,-
composed of a single piece of wire, the lower horizontal portions, being bent at right angles to the vertical portions of the same, forming loops located parallel with each other, and having the rear ends twisted together.
In testimony'whereof I aflix my signature.
GEORGE H. KUNSMAN.
