To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MIKE LESKO, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gun-Rests, of which the following is a specification.

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a simple and inexpensive device adapted to be readily carried by a soldier for employment either as a gun-rest or a spear, the device possessing great strength and being also serviceable as a support in any connection desired.

A further object of the invention is to provide a support to be readily carried by the belt of a soldier, quickly detached for upright positioning in the ground to be employed for resting a gun thereon to obtain a more perfect aim during the firing operation.

In the drawing forming a part of this application and in which like numerals refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device in its operative arrangement showing a portion of a gun barrel supported thereon;

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device illustrating its use as a hand spear, the hand of the operator being illustrated by dotted lines as grasping the device.

Referring more in detail to the drawing, the device broadly consists of a metallic post or shaft 10 having a pointed end 11 adapted to be thrust into the ground, such as 12, for positioning the device in vertical position for resting any member, such as a gun barrel 13, upon a U-shaped receiving fork or bracket 14 transversely secured to the opposite end of the shaft 10.

An inner bracket 15 of U-shape similar to the fork 14- is secured upon the shaft 10 in spaced relation with respect to the fork, providing a handhold portion 16 for the shaft for convenience in grasping when the shaft is employed as a spear in the hand of the operator, such as 17 as illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawing.

A flexible belt 18 is attached to a side lug 19 of the bracket 15 by means of a link 20, While separable fasteners 21 are arranged for the said belt 18 whereby the belt may be arranged surrounding any convenient part of the wearing apparel of a soldier such as the waist belt, not shown, for supporting the device when not in use.

The device may be grasped by placing the thumb and fingers over the brackets 14 and 15 to forcibly project the shaft 10 with its point 11 forwardly arranged, the device serving as an article of defense in the nature of a small spear.

It will be evident that the device is of light weight and can be readily carried by the soldier when attached to his belt by means of the flexible member 18 while the fasteners 21 may be easily separated to de' tach the device and vertically position the shaft 10 in the ground for mounting a gun barrel 13 or any other desired member upon the top 14 thereof. The shaft 10 may be used for other purposes such as a canvas support or tent-pole if found desirable and is of general use upon the battlefield or in the camp.

What I claim as new is 1. A device of the class described comprising a shaft having a sharpened end, an outwardly projecting U-shaped fork transversely secured to the opposite end of the shaft, an inverted U-shaped bracket carried by the shaft in spaced relations with the said fork providing a handhold portion therebetween, a link pivotally connected to the said bracket, and a flexible-carrying belt attached to the said link.

2. A device of the class described comprising a shaft pointed at one end adapted for upright positioning in the ground, a transversely arranged U-shaped fork at the opposite end of the shaft adapted for supporting a gun barrel therein, a handhold bracket transversely carried by the shaft spaced from the said fork, a carrying belt linked to the said bracket, and separable fasteners upon the belt, whereby the device may be readily carried when not in use as a support.
