TANK.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Aug. 27, 1918- Application filed November 13, 1916. Serial No. 131,119. I
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WESLIE MARCH RoAnns, a citizen of the United States, re
siding at Okmulgee, in the county of Okmulgee and State of Oklahoma, have invented a new and useful Tank, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is a tank adapted to con-' tain 1iquids and similar substances, and the invention aims to provide a tank of this kind which may be knocked down and set up readily, without skilled labor.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in side elevation, a tank constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a fragmental top plan of the tank;
Fig. 3 is a of the tank;
Fig. 4 is a cross section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 5 is a fragmental cross section showing a slight modification in the invention.
Fig. 6 is a fragmental top plan showing a modified form of the invention.
The tank forming the subject matter of this application preferably is made of metal throughout and includes any desired number of segments 1. Mounted on the outside of each segment 1 near to the upright vertical edge thereof is a spacer 2 on which is superposed an outer strip 3 held in place by securing elements 4: passing through the spacer 2 and the outer strip 3 and engaging the segment 1. The outer strip 3 cooperates With the longitudinal edge of the said segment to form a groove in which the longitudinal edge 5 of the next adjoining segment is received. A packing 6 of any desired sort is located in the groove above menfragmental transverse section tioned, and cooperates with the edge 5 to form a liquid-tight joint.
A means is provided whereby segments may be drawn together transversely, thus to compress the edge 5 against the packing 6. With this end in view, brackets 7 are secured to the segments adjacent their upright edges, the brackets 7 including outstanding ears 8 in which are located bolts 9. The
specific clamping means above mentioned may be departed from without jeopardizing the utility of the invention, but it is understood that if the nuts 10 on the bolts 9 are tightened up, the edge 5 of each segment will be pressed on the packing 6, should it be found desirable to use a packing, the parts thus being held together securely, and watertight joints being afforded. Each of the segments 1 is equipped at its lower edge with an outstanding lip 11.
The bottom of the tank is made up of two or more parts 12 and 14. The parts 12 and 14 are equipped at their peripheries with hook-shaped beads 15 receivingthe lips 11, packings 16 being interposed between the beads and the lips to effect water -tight j oints; Extended longitudinally of the transverse edge of the part 12 of the bottom is a spacer 17 on which is placed a bottom strip 18, the spacer and the bottom strip being held to the part 12 by means of securing elements 19, the bottom strip 18 and the transverse edge of the part 12 of the bottom defining a groove in which is located a packing 20. The transverse edge 21 of the bottom -'forming part 14 is received in this groove and is engaged with the packing 20. A means is provided whereby the bottomforming members 12 and 14 may be drawn together transversely of the axis of the tank, to cause the transverse edge 21 of the part 14: to clamp on the packing 20, and to cause the beads 15 to cooperate with the packings 16. With this end in view, brackets 22 are secured to the bottom-forming part 12 and brackets 23 are secured to the bottom-forming part 14. The brackets 23 have upstanding cars 25, and the brackets 22 have upstanding ears 24. Bolts 27 extend through the ears 25 and 24. Nuts 29 are threaded onto the bolts 28 and cooperate with the ears 24:. It will be obvious that the nuts 29 may be manipulated to draw the transverse edges of the bottom-forming parts 12 and 14: together, and to secure a water-tight joint, the construction outlined in Fig. 4 being noted I 51 and the part 32.
again at this point. The bottom strip 18 may be provided at its ends with hooks receivin the ends of the beads 15 on the bottomorming parts 12 and 14.
The tank may be provided with a top 50 of any desired construction, although the use of a top is by no means mandatory.
In Fig. 5 of the drawings, a slight modification in the invention is shown. In the figure the numeral 1% designates one of the segments, the same being provided alongits lower edge with an outstanding'flange 51 superposed on one of: the bottom-forming parts 32,tl1e bottom forming part 82 and the flange'5l being connected by securing elements 31 :whichpreferably are bolts. A packing 33 may be placed between the flange As shown inFig. 6 of the drawings, the bottom-forming members appear at 60 and have a hook-shapedbead 61,00rresponding to the element- 15.: The side segments are shown at 62 and have outstanding flanges 63, received inzthe bead 61, the' elements 63 corresponding to the partsll. Disposed between the upright-edges of the segments 62 is an H-shaped bar or rod64= in which the longitudinal vertical edges of the parts 62- are received. Packings 65are carried in the grooves of the H-shaped rod or bar'64 and coact with the edges of the parts 62. A
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is A tank comprising a wall provided at its lower end with an outstanding flange; a bottom comprising parts having their inner edges overlapped, the said: parts having peripheralhook-shaped beads receiving' the flange; a spacer cooperating with one of the parts of the bottom; a bottom strip mounted on the spacer and: cooperating therewith to define a groove wherein the inner edge of the other of said parts is received, the bottom strip being provided atits ends with hooks receivingthe ends of the 'hookshaped beads of the bottom torming parts; and tightening devices connecting said parts.
In testimony. that I claim=the foregoing as my own I havehereto atfixedmy signature in the presence of two witnesses.
