PORTABLE ADJUSTABLE ADJUSTING-TABLE FOR CHIROPBACTIC USE. l,
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented A110-, 2Q, 1913,
Application led 'November 27, 1915. Serial No. 63,761.
ject to the objection that they, by reason of Y their formation, are unable to accommodate the various figures of different patients, so that the patients complain of undue pres sure, and therefore are unable to relax. Another objectionable feature is that they will not accommodate heavy persons due to the fact that they are not rigid in their construction, thus rendering it diiicult to secure proper adjustment.
My invention has for its object to provide a table which shall be portable, but which shall be so constructed as to be absolutely rigid when in use, and to construct it in such a way that the atient may be fully relaxed when on the ta le, in this manner preventing any bruising of the muscles caused by trying to make adjustments when the muscles are contracted, and to accomplish this result without producing a table which will be too heavy to be carried about by the operator from his oice to the patients home, when required.
My means of accomplishing the foregoing objects may be more readily understood by having reference to the accompanying drawings, which are hereunto annexed and are a part of this specification, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved table, opened.
Fig. 2 is a top or plan view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of my table closed and ready to be carried about,
Fig, Ll is a perspective view of the elevating leg.
Similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the entire description.
As shown in the drawings, the table consists of two sections or tables 1 and 2, which are provided with legs 3 and 4, 5 and 6, respectively, thus forming two small tables.
These legs are hinged to the sections 1 and 2, adjacent the corners, which permits them to fold inwardly when the table is not in use.
The section 2 is provided with a slot 7 in the center thereof, and as shown in Fig. 1, a cushion 8 is also provided which is slotted to correspond with lthe slot 7.- This construction provides for the accommodation of the nose of the patient when lying face down, and enables the cervicals and upper dorsals to be kept in perfect alinement, thus greatly facilitating the adjustment, a resultV which is impossible where the patient has to lie on a table which is not provided with this slot, andtherefore has to twist the head, and thus the cervicals and upper dorsals are pushed out of alinement, making proper and correct adjustment diiiicult, if not impossible.
It is well known that if there is the slightest fear in the patients mind, that he will not be able to relax perfectly, and where the ordinary table is used, which simply leaves an opening between the two tables, the pa tient fears that he will be pushed between the two sections, with the result that the operator is unable to secure proper adjustment. I overcome this by providing two coil springs 10, which extend from the section or table 1, to the section or table 2,V upon which is rested a cushion 9. These springs are detachable, so as to permit the table to be folded up, and also to permit either one of the tables to be turned around for different positions required in making various adjustments.
The legs are stiii'ened by struts 11 and 12, which serve to brace the legs rigidly and firmly in position. They are detachably secured to the legs so as to permit their removal when it is desired to fold the table up. A brace 13 provided with a plurality of slots 14, is provided to secure the tables l and 2, any desired distance apart, to accommodate a person of any height or weight.
This distance apart is necessary in order to prevent injury to the bones and soft parts when adjusting, which would be the case if made on a solid table.
I provide legs 15, shown in Fig. 4:, which may be secured to the legs 6 of the table 2, by means of the bolts 2O and wing nuts 2l to ermit its elevation for accommodating di erent positions which may be required vating legs in different positions.
The closing of the table is accomplished as follows:
The rods 1l and l2 are reinoved from the legs 3 and et, and 5 and 6. These legs are then folded inside of the tables or sections l and Q. rllhe brace 13 is placed inside of one of the two sections. rlhe braces ll and l2 are also placed intermediate the legs. rlhe cushions and coil springs are placed on the top of the legs. 2 are then placed in juxtaposition and se cured together by fasteners l?, which may be ofr anyT suitable or coinenient style for effecting this purpose. lt may be found desirable to provide dowel pins to assist in holding the two sections in position. i handle 18, is provided for the convenience ofthe operator.
The slot i", is filledwith a board i9, which is fitted to and coincides with the opening .and is provided with suitable fasteners to hold it in place when the table is closed. @ne end of the section or table 2, is formed with an inclined plane Q0, which is absoluteljvv essential where the patient lies upon the facej or bac-lr, as it prevents contraction of the inuscles due to the pressure of fullbusted person when lying on the face, and when lying en the bach aceoininodateav the buttocks.
lt will be apparent frein the foregoingj that the construction is such that it is possible by the use of such a table to secure coniplete relaxation of the patient, thus greatly facilitating' the correct adjustment.
