The ribbon v1 rator lever 17 is oscillated by means of a universal bar 22 and a frame 23 to which it is attached, the universal bar being engaged in the ordinary way by the movement of the printing type bars to the e movement of the universal bar being given directly to the frame 23. Upturnedfrom the frame 23 is a bracket 24 in which a member 25 is pivoted. This member is formed-with lateral projections 26, and the frame 23 is formed with corresponding bosses 27 in which screws 28-are threaded to engage the lateral extending portions 26'to adjust the position of the pivoted member 25 with respect to the frame. 7 Connecting the member 25 and the upper end of the oscillating lever 16,,is a link 29; The adjusting screws 28 and the pivotedi member 25 are varying the position of the 'oscillatinglever 16 during assembly'or subsequent adjustment of the machine, the vibrator "lever 16 being moved horizontally by this adjustment, and the movement of the oscillating lever 16 on the stud shaft 13 and with respect to the eccentric pin 14: causing an adjustment or variation of the vibrator lever 17 and a corresponding variation 111 position of the vibrator 4, so that the vibrator can be made to assume a predetermined initial position, and a proper variation of can be obtained by the subsequent rotation of the stud shaft and its eccentric pin from the side of the typewriter as above set forth.
The slotted member 7 at the lower end of V the ribbon vibrator 4 is preferably in two spaced slotted portions, between which the extremity 18 of the lever 17 is inserted, inserted through a proper aperture in the said end 18 and having a proper engagement with the slots 8 on both sides of the end 18. This produces a considerable bearing surface, which struction of the parts by the eccentric P1I1'14:. The slots 8 of this member 7 are always in the horizontal position, and even if there is some wear between the pin 19 and the slots 8, there will be no difliculty in adjusting or placing the ribbon and its holder 41 in any desired position; for by simply varying the position of the lever 17, the ribbon vibrator 1 can be raised or lowered by a direct vertical engagement of the connecting parts, namely, a pin 19 and the horizontal slots 8. Therefore, no close adjustment of these parts' is necessary in assembling the typewriter and these parts, for their position can be varied with absolute certainty by the simple adjustment of the ribbon vibrator lever 17.
It is obvious, from the above description of the parts, that the actuation of the universal bar and its frame will cause the reciprocation of the ribbon vibrator; the oscillating lever 16 being attached to the shift frame which, although movable into upper or lower case position, is in either position fixed with respect to the frame 23, which is oscillated as set forth by the printing type bars. The oscillation, therefore, of the member 25, which is connected by means of the link 29 to the lever 16, will cause the oscillation of the lower end of this lever 16 to which the vibrator lever 17' is pivoted.
I claim:
1. In an adjustable ribbon vibrator, the combination with a vertically rcciprocablc vibrator having a horizontal slot at the lower end, and a horizontally adjustable vibrator lever having a pin on one arm engaging in the slot.
2. The combination with a vertically rcciprocable and adjustable ribbon vibrator having lower forked extremities with registering horizontal slots therein, a horizontally adjustable lever with one end extending between the extremities, and a pin fitting tightly in the lever and extending from both sides thereof into the slots.
3. The combination of a vertically reciprocable ribbon vibrator formed of sheet material and having a lower extremity bent to extend horizontally with a strengthening ridge formed up out of the material at the bend and with the end bent to form a and means to engage the for moving and adjusting said bar and having a projecting pin which engages in the horizontal slotfor accurately horizontally and vertically adjustable and vertically oscillatable lever extending between the extremities jecting from both sides thereof into the slots, the horizontal slot accurately defining the vertical position of the vibrator.
