fl '0 all whom, it may. concern I 'Be it knownthat I, HAR EY S. RORIoK,
lacitizen of the United States, residing at Detroit,in the county. of VVayneand State ofj Michigan, have inventednew and useful Improvements in Shade and Curtain Supports, of which the following isa specification.
I y This invention relates to a combined shade and curtain support and the object of the invention is to provide a simple, attractive and efficient device for holding ,a shade, a curtain rod and if necessary a supplemental The device is so'constructed as tobe easily placed and removed Without-the useof nailsor [screws or without marring the woodwork of the 1 casing of the door or' window in connection with which thedevice is used. The device furlthermore is adjustable to adapt itself'for casings'of different sizes so that'it can be removed from one casing and" applied to anothercasing of different dimensions.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in View, the invention consists in the novel' combination and arrangement of'parts constituting the invention, to be hereinafter specifically described and illustrated in the accompanyingdrawingswhich form a part hereof wherein is shown the preferred embodiment of the invention,'but
it 1s tobe understood-that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within'the scope of the matter hereinafter claimed. Y

centrallydisposed slot 14: to receive the clamping screw 10. The slot 14 is narrower than the space between theinbent portions 16 and also narrower than the lateral width of the nut 11, so that when thethum'b screw 12 is tightened on the screw 10 it clamps the member 13 against the member 1, to prevent vertical movement of the former. Below the slot 14, the member 13 is outwardly bent at 15 to provide a groove to receive the usual beading 16 commonly employed in casings. Below the outwardly bent portion 15 is a depending portion 17 practically in the same vertical plane as the main portion 13. This portion is provided with an opening 18 to receive a clamping screw 19 provided with a thumb nut 20. Coacting with the portion 17 is an L-shaped cross bar 21 having the end 22 thereof bent at right angles thereto and provided with teeth 23 constituting gripping means for engaging the side face of the casing. The member 21 is provided with a longitudinally-extending that the bar 36 will be rest upon the upturned end slot 24 the side edges of which are inclined inwardly toward each other to constitute a seat for the head 25 of the clamping screw 19 which is preferably made square to prevent its unintentional rotation.
The side edge of the portion 17 is disposed at right angles to the main portion to constitute a supporting bracket 26 for supporting a shade-roller and the bracket on one member of each pair of these devices will be provided with a slot 27 and the com panion member of the pair will be provided with a cylindrical aperture 28 constituting a bearing, otherwise the members of each pair are identical.
The device for supporting curtains and drapery rods comprises an L-shaped bracket consisting of a single flat bar bentso that the two portions thereof are at right angles to each' other, one of the portions being de nominated by the reference numeral 30 and the other member by the reference numeral 31. The portion 30 is provided with an opening to receive the clamping screw- 10 and the portion 31 is provided with a threaded opening to receive a clamping screw 32. Mounted on the portion 31 is a curtain rod support comprising a fiat bar v33 provided with a slot 34 to receive the screw 32 and provided with a Ushaped terminus 35 to support the curtain rod. In cases where it isdesired to hang two sets of curtains-or support two curtain rods there is provided an auxiliary rod support com- ,prising a flat bar 36 having a longitudinal slot 37 to receive the screw 32 and with a U-shaped terminus 38. It is contemplated I considerably longer than the bar 33 and in order to support the U-shaped terminus thereof the bar 36 will of the U-shaped terminus 35 of the bar 33.
The device is set up as follows: the various parts are adjusted approximately ac cording to the arrangement shown in Fig. 3 and the upper horizontal portion of the member 1 is seated on the upper face of the casing of a door or window and the points 3 driven into the wood which is unimportant in view of the fact that this portion is rarely ever finished). The members 13 are then lowered sutliciently to permit the teeth 23 to engage the side face of the casing and sustain the device from outward movement. In order to obtain this adjustment the cross bar 21 may be moved transversely of the member 33 after loosening the clamping nuts 20. Of course, the two devices applied to the same casing willbe adjusted Vertically so that the shade roller will be in a true horizontal plane and the devices the proper distance one from the other to enablethe shade rollers to be seated in the two brackets 26. The curtain rods are supported by the U-shaped members 35 and 38 and they may be adjusted toward or away from the window by manipulating the thumb screws 32 and which after adjustment are tightened to hold the parts in assembled relation.
I claim,
1. In a device of the class described, a multipart clamping device including an upper vertically disposed clamping member, a right angle bracket vertically secured to the front face of said upper clamping mem her to have one end extend horizontally outwardly from the casing when in position, a horizontally adjustable curtain pole supporting member having one end formed to receive a curtain pole and having its other end fiat and provided with an elongated longitudinal slot, the slotted flat end of the pole supporting member lying against the horizontal end of the angle bracket, and a clamping screw passing through the slot of the pole supporting member and the horizontal end of the angle bracket to secure said member in adjusted positions.
2. In a device of the class described, a multipart clamping device including an upper vertically disposed clamping member, a right angle bracket vertically secured to the front face of said upper clamping member, an outwardly horizontally adjustable curtain pole supporting member attached to said bracket, a second outwardly horizontally adjustable curtain pole supporting member mounted on the firstinamed supporting member, and a single means for uniting both supporting members and the bracket and for securing both of the supporting members in adjusted positions relative to the bracket and relative to each other.
3. A device of the class described including an upper vertical clamping member having its upper end bent to engage over a casing, the other end portion thereof being pro- 1 "ided with inturned side edges forming a channel, a lower vertical member havmg its transversely adjustably connected with the lower end of said lower member and having upper end provided with an elongated longitudinal slot and slidably mounted in said 5 channel, a clamping screw extending through one end bent to engage a side of a casing.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing wit-'7 15 the upper'member and the slot of the lower nesses. member'to secure the lower member in ad- HARVEY S. RORICK. justed positions, said lower member having Witnesses: 7
