It is found that the filled joint between the nut on the burner stem and the reservoir top, which is usually a soldered joint, frequently breaks and requires repair, for obviously no Inat-V ter how small the break it impairs the operation of the instrument by allowing the compressed air to escape.
It is the object of our Vinvention to avoid this breakage of this joint. This we do in the simple way hereinafter described.

The lip n of this bridge or reinforcing member 1s soldered to the side of the can or reservoir and the stem of the burner threaded through the bridge. The beamk ofthe bridge is soldered to the topl of theY reservoir. The stem of the burner passing through the bridge secures the location of the nut lo just above the bridge and consequently vthe top of the can is pinched in between the nut Y and the bridge and there can be noi-relative movement between these two members so as t0 tend to break the soldered joint.
A very important condition that results from this bridge arrangement is that vthe 'warping action of the top isY substantially prevented by reason of the long lip n which runs down and abuts against the side of the can or reservoir at. This causes the tubular side wall to resist any warping tendency of the top for obviously with` the lip abutting along they inside of the side wall and soldered thereto, any warping tendency of the top as a whole is resistedV by the strong tubular side wall. It is well known that there is very little warping tendency in a tubular construction, no matter how thin.
From the above description it is apparent that not only is a stronger reservoir construction secured but by reinforcing the top with a bridge having a long anchorage to the side wall, any warping strains are trans ferred to and resisted by the tubular side wall. Hence the filled or soldered joint between the nut and the top of the reservoir is protected from the tearing stresses due to warping and it is also in-Yconnection with the adjacent portion of the top pinched to the reinforcing member' itself so that relative movement and disruption of the joint is almost impossible. Iirthermore, the burner is supported instable upright position with respect to the reservoir.
What we claim is: e
1. In a torch 'for the purpose specified, the combination of a tubular reservoir, a
lstem passing through the top of the reservoir and having a joint with the top of `the reservoir in which isy included a filled connection, and a reinforcing bridge having a beam portion adapted to lie underrthe top and a lip portion adapted to extend along the `tubular side wall of the reservoir, for the purpose specified.
